That's pretty cool man!   Depending on her mood, I could probably talk my girl into helping me work on my vehicles.  Most of the time though, she'd rather have nothing to do with it.  Although, when I was installing my headers last August, I went inside to grab something and when I came out she was up under the hood loosening manifold bolts for me, right where I left off!   It was awesome.

Anyways, what's the stats of that new engine??  That yellow is unique.

Sorry I haven't replied, work's been crazy busy lately....gotta remember, when working for yourself, "busy is good:)"

The motor is a 396 I had laying around.  Actually its out of my old '70 Chevelle.  I freshened it up and decided that my truck needed a new lease on life.  I got tired of leaving the trail of smoke and oil everywhere.  The color is something that I had made up to match the color of the car.

Right now the motor is just sitting in there, as I haven't found the time to work on it since last Saturday.

I keep you guys posted on its progress if anyone's interested:)

Well just to update you on the status of the truck; along with the motor, the rest of the driveline has been bolted in.  I just gotta sort out the clutch linkage.  Also I've got new wheels bolted to the truck.

The main headache right now is sorting out the brackets and pulleys to hang the accessories on the motor.  The engine was originally in a drag car, so I didn't have to worry about anything other than the alt.  But now I have to hang an Alt, a P/S pump and an A/C compressor!!  There aren't too many affordable big block accessory brackets available in the aftermarket.  (March pulleys @ $500+ isn't an option...)  So I ended up getting custom brackets from a street rod shop for $200....but the brackets work with a short w/p, and I have a long w/p.  So I now have to get a short w/p and new pulleys....only I can't find a 3 groove crank pulley and a 3 groove w/p pulley to run all of the accessories!!  I only see 2 groove units.  I guess I'll have to wait on the A/C till spring...  Using the street rod custom brackets also makes the water neck hit the brackets, so I have to get a swivel water neck to get a hose on the thing.... it never ends...

Oh then there is the exhaust.... because I'm not using factory BB frame mounts (because they aren't available in the aftermarket...), the motor sits too low in the bay with SB brackets, so the headers won't clear the frame rails.  I cannot find stock manifolds for a reasonable price either...  I think I'm going to have to weld a plate under the frame mounts and push up the motor a few inches...hopefully it won't cause an interferrence problem with anything else.

I haven't gotten too far on it, but then again, I really haven't been spending too much time on it either...the shops been really busy and then with the holiday..

Anyway, thats the current update, I try to post some pics when I get a chance:)

check the reproduction catalogs for chevelles and camaros, year one, classic industries and such, they sell most of the pulleys and brackets you need. they aren't cheap but they aren't as expensive as the custom stuff, you need a three groove crank pulley (the outer goove will be larger than the 2 back grooves), two groove p/s pulley, one groove water pump pulley (small diameter) to duplicate a factory set-up.

On the small-block Corvettes, like mine, the 3-groove water pump pulley is actually a two-groove pulley with a single-groove stacked onto it.  You might try a setup like that...

The crank pulley, however, is a true three-groove pulley.  I'd think you could find one in a junkyard, although the big-block stuff seems to disapper pretty quickly.
