A buddy of mine bought a 1968 C-10 Custom truck that is about 70% restored.  He says it has a factory 350 with a 2bbl.  I thought that the 350 didn't come out til 1969.  It also has a HEI distributor.  He also claim's it was original.  I thought they still had points systems back then too?

He's the same guy with the 76 C-10, which I'm about 90% ready to buy for ?.

Yes, yes, and yes....

The 350 came out in '67 and '68 for Camaros only, and wasn't available in other cars or trucks until 1969, except for a few Novas with 350s in '68.

'68 Trucks had a choice of 307 ci or 327 ci for small blocks, 396 for big blocks.

HEI wasn't introduced until 1975, although I think a few models had it in '74 as a "trial run".

I think you should jump on the '76 C-10, '76 was a good year for Chevy trucks (at least I think so!)

I agree

My dad bought a '76 brand new back in the day and that thing ran like hell until the day he sold it after he bought the '87 Suburban he has today.

I'd be careful buying anything from someone that doesn't know HEI wasn't available in '68.  I'd be wondering what else he "didn't" know while owning/working on the truck. (I've seen some nasty mechanical work in my time!)

The only thing I can think of that even comes close to the HEI in older vehicles is the transistor ignitions.  I don't know if trucks ever had them but I do know the full size Chevy's and Chevelles had that option going to the early 60's.

There were 350's with 2 barrels originally on the full size Chevy's and probably others but not sure on trucks. That supposed 350 might be a 307 as they were first introduced for 1968.
