Hi, I am wondering if anyone has come across this issue before. I replaced the power steering pressure hose on my Sierra 5.3, and the new hose came with two new seals that go into the steering rack ports. They are both the same diameter with a slightly larger O.D flange that seats into the steering rack. The instructions that came with the hose, and that I have read online say to replace both seals (return and pressure), so I removed the return seal first, and then the pressure seal second. That is when I noticed the Pressure port on the rack has a recessed land around the bore, and the return has a recessed land that extends slightly smaller in diameter than the bore of the port. So the new seals fit into the Pressure port, but are too big to fit into the Return port (the flange of the seal fits but not the body). Ive researched for any similar situation to no avail, and ended up jerry-rigging a seal for the Return hose that seams to hold (for now). I also phoned the store I got the hose from to see if they have different seals available but they do not. The seal that I removed from the return side did not appear to have any flange around it that sits in the seat around the port as the bore of the port is larger in diameter that the inside diameter of the seat. If I would not have removed the seal from the Return port the job would have been completed properly. I hope someone has come across this or has more experience with the steering rack than I do and could give some advice on how to remediate the improper job I have done. Thanks in advance!
