  1. GM recalls 160,000 pickup trucks in Canada for fire risks, nothing announced in US yet As of right now there is a recall for all GM 1500's years 2014-2018 that have both a rear window defogger and a power sliding rear window. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/gm-recall-pickup-trucks-canada-fire-risks/ That recall has not been expanded to the US. I Just got off the phone with GM and filed a request to have the recall expanded to the US. I would encourage everyone who this applies to in this forum to do the same. It takes about 5-10 min but could save us all a lot of hassle later. HAVE YOUR VIN READY Call GM @1 (866) 522-9559 Reference this recall number: Manufacturer Recall Number N192220470 (This is the recall number from GM in Canada) (reference: https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/7/VRDB-BDRV/search-recherche/detail.aspx?lang=eng&mk=0&md=0&fy=0&ty=9999&ft=&ls=0&sy=0&rn=2019325&cf=SearchResult&pg=50) They will tell you that the recall only applies in Canada and not to your VIN. Express to them that the recall needs to be expanded to the US since our vehicles are also affected. Please post here if you have called GM (just so we can keep track) Please also post if you have experienced this issue (smoke, glass breakage, etc) Affected components: electrical – rear window defroster on trucks equipped with the power sliding rear window. Affected vehicles: 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2015-2019 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado LD 2014-2018 GMC Sierra 1500 2015-2019 GMC Sierra HD 2014-2018 GMC Sierra LD It may be a good idea to sticky this topic.
  2. Anyone else with a new 2014 Sierra having an issue with the frame rusting and paint/wax flaking off? I have 3000 kms and it looks horrible. I also own a 2011 Canyon service truck with 105kms and the frame looks like new. So irriating as my Sierra is a beautiful truck aside
  3. I recently had the recall done on my 2020 6.6 and was wondering has anyone had any issues with fuel economy dropping significantly. Also I’m having issues with a code for active grill shutter and sometimes it comes on and sometimes doesn’t. Hadn’t had an issue with anything until the recall done for the regen system. If anyone has any light on situation I’d appreciate it.
  4. Anyone else have multiple issue regarding the lifters? I purchased a demo truck with 3900 miles on it back in early May. Started having engine issues almost immediately and had gotten all my lifters replaced recently, with under 7,000 miles on the truck. Spent almost a month at the dealer and finally got it back. They replaced all the lifters the first time and then a few weeks later it started having issues again. Luckily with the market conditions today I was able to trade out and get a newer one but I gotta admit I'm concerned. Anyone else dealing with this issue repeatedly?
  5. I own a 2014 Chevy Silverado Double Cab 4x4 Z71 and wanted to share my experience as I approach 30K. When I first bought this truck it was great. I like the features, the ride, very smooth driving characteristics and overall design. Then the recalls started and so far I have had four performed that I know of. I also started noticing some issues that made me feel as if the 10K off MSRP I received was not enough of a discount. Below is recap and assessment of some issues I have seen in the last year and a half of ownership. 1. Paint- too thin and the appearance is blotchy, I am currently having some issues with adhesion as I watch the paint peel off the lower driver and passenger door, this will be covered under the warranty according to the body shop. 2. Recalls- mostly minor but I am sure as time goes on these recalls will increase in severity and inconvenience. GM should extend the bumper to bumper warranty, by a certain amount of time/milage, per recall. 3. Vibrations- there are several issues in this area. Tires are number one in my experience, then the v4 AFM mode and lastly the drivetrain are all sources for these vibrations. But if you look at the numbers on this site and do the math this seems to be an issue that only effects .5%-1% of trucks out there. Even with these statistics in some cases the vibrations have been eleminated. 4. Interior- nice to look at and touch but quality is a C+. Constant snap, crackle, pop, sounds heard mostly caused by thermo expansion and contraction. Then there are the rattles that are caused from cheap clips and loose components. One solution is to take everything apart and use dampening materials (carpet padding/expanding foam/electrical tape) to fill in void spaces and eleminate rattles. 5. Electrical- there are inconsistencies in the way the electronics perform. The radio sometimes emits a static/buzz sound through the speakers when I open the driver door. The bluetooth is temperamental, and the security locking feature sometimes has a delay. 6. Powertrain- GM has some work to do here. From the slip yolk clunk to the G80 rearend backlash knock, this area of the truck needs to be refined and shored up. There was also a leafspring knock that I had to deal with for awhile that I resolved by properly torquing the u-bolts. Even with all this I give this truck a "B-" grade. The 5.3 ecotec MGP along with HP/Torque numbers, the 100k powertrain warranty/36k three year bumper to bumper, and overall performance including towing/hauling make up for some of these issues. I would recommend this vehicle to others but if you are looking take your time and test drive this for a weekend and look for these issues. There are some that are better than others and this is the number one thing when looking at MSRP/resale value.
  6. GM is presently leaking information on their 2020 and 2021 trucks, specifically Sierras and Silverados. Wow, they look beautiful ............ but the body work hides a truck full of problems. I think they need to take a step back and reevaluate the crap they are throwing our way. Their adds promote all kinds of wonderful technology both mechanical and electrical. It all sounds so wonderful, in an idealistic way ... but it just doesn't all work as promised. Our VERY EXPENSIVE trucks are nothing more than dolled up scrap metal. Our engines are failing prematurely, brake systems continue to fail, ProTail Gates don't operate as promised and leak every time it rains. Even simple things like a simple back up cameras fail to initiate on a regular basis. Our computer screens exhibit either the blue screen of death or a totally black screen. The servicing dealers scratch their heads as they don't have the answers we all need. I spoke with the manager of the GMC dealer on Long Island where I purchased my Sierra SLT and his exact words were, "GM is putting too much technology into these vehicles. Technology that is not proven, tested or properly supported. ..... ( he went on to say ) They ( GM ) build them and we "try" to fix them. We don't know what to do or how to do it" My own truck is 5 months old and I have not had one week of trouble free use. I get calls from the GM Customer support line on a weekly basis asking what's happening and I tell them about my woes. AND NOTHING HAPPENS. I want my truck fixed once and for all, I want my warranty extended. On no less than 5 occasions I have made appointments to have my Sierra serviced, only to drive 35 mile to my dealer and find out they don't have a technician available, or I'm given some other lame excuse as to why they can't honor their appointment obligation. What is the purpose of making an appointment weeks in advance if this continues. How many of you are undergoing the same or similar experiences. Please use this forum " Lipstick On A Pig" as your thread to vent. This is in hopes that someone at GM may wake up and start to care.
