Wanting a third vehicle as daily driver to keep miles down on 2018 Sierra and 2016 Traverse. Thinking about looking for a reasonably low mileage 2017 Cruze. Any input appreciated.

Steve Majoros, director of marketing, Chevrolet Cars, commented on the new Cruze, saying, “Offering a maximum highway range of up to 570* miles per tank– you can spend less time at the pump. The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze has more horsepower and torque, and is lighter than the previous generation making it more fun to drive.” The Cruze diesel is off the market, but slated to return to production after the EPA finishes flogging VW for cheating on emissions. Look for it in early 2017 if things go to plan.

The Cruze hatch will be pretty much the same car as the 2016 Cruze sedan, but with a different rear end and dramatically more cargo flexibility. Behind the tailgate is 22.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat. With that rear seat folded, cargo space increases to 47.2 cubic feet. However, it is the ability to use the height of the read cargo area that matters to actual customers. Chevy says the Cruze Hatch will be available in LT and Premier trims, and with the RS package. It is scheduled to arrive in the fall of this year.

The 2015 Chevy Cruze diesel is the last affordable family car in the U.S. with a diesel powerplant. Chevy has not announced details on a 2016 and the EPA has not certified it yet. The Cruze offers good drivability, but its fuel economy rating is only average for the class at 33 MPG combined. The gasoline Cruze Diesel Eco matches that number. The Toyota Corolla LE Eco earns a 35 MPG rating, which we exceeded in our testing of the car. Most of the top sellers in the affordable compact sedan and hatchback class can match the combined EPA rating of Chevy and VW's diesel cars.
