  1. So the Chevrolet owners manual says to not tow a 4 x 4 vehicle with a single speed transfer case with “any“ wheels on the ground. It says to use a flatbed tow truck only. I will always do what Chevy says, as to not void my warranty. But, I can’t conceptually understand in my brain why I can’t tow my truck in 2-wheel drive with the rear wheels lifted off the ground and the front wheels on the pavement rolling. As long as my four-wheel-drive is not engaged, why would my front wheels do any damage to the vehicle? From my understanding, when the vehicle is in 2 Wheel Dr., the front differential is disconnected from the transfer case and front drive train. Why would this cause damage? inversely, couldn’t I disconnect the rear drive shaft and tow it with the rear wheels only on the ground? just seems weird that Chevy says “no“ to absolutely any options with towing with wheels on the ground. I mean, how the hell do they expect me to get it on a flatbed tow truck without “pulling it with wheels on the ground”. Just a thought. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the Single speed transfer case linkage/ 4-wheel drive system can advise.
  2. I am currently in the market for a camper and I am wondering how much weight I can tow. I have 2019 Silverado 1500 RST 5.3 V8 crew cab short bed. From what I can find online I should be “okay”, but really wanted some feedback from those of you that have a similar setup. I am aware the 2500 is the ideal setup, but that will be down the line a bit for me. Truck Trailering Info: GVWR 7100lbs GCWR 15000lbs GAWR RR 3800lbs Max Payload 1819lbs Max Tongue Weight 960lbs Curb Weight 5281lbs The camper I am looking at has a dry weight of 6300lbs and GVWR of 9,480lbs (no intent to load our camper down or travel with full tanks). Hitch weight of the camper is 680lbs. 32’ 11” tongue to bumper. Really only looking at going camping within 100 miles on the weekends. We typically travel light with basic necessities for hook up campgrounds (clothes, food, chairs). any help would be great!
  3. I'm currently looking at these mirrors for an 07 GMC 2500HD Classic here: http://monsterautoparts.com/GMC/SIERRA/gmc_sierra_towing_mirrors_telescopic.htm Item1339-0010B because its the pair. They're exactly what I want: Power mirror, heated and turn signal BUT its manual telescoping. Is there any place I can get all that with power telescoping? I'm kind of at a loss of where to look since the ones I had bookmarked seem to have gone missing. I just have standard mirrors now so the next question I'm asking is, what else does it seem I would need to install these? Am I just not looking hard enough to find other options? I went to a local GM dealer and they're guy said GM had discontinued the OEM ones.
  4. Hello everyone! I just recently purchased a 2021 Sierra 1500 3.0L which will mainly be used to tow my center console around to local lakes and to Florida a couple times a year. I did NOT get the max trailering package mainly due to a mix up and having to switch trucks because someone purchased the one I went to look at and I didn't notice (yeah). My boat is a 24' center console and weights about 2500lbs, plus around 800lbs for the engine, around 800lbs for fuel (105gal tank) and the trailer. My best guess is between 4,500-5,500lbs. When towing to Florida the rear end sagged quit a bit. I picked up some Airlift 5000 air bags and compressor hoping this will resolve the sagging but now I am wondering if it will help at all. We used to tow with a 2018 Tahoe that had the max trailering package so it had air bags on it already. To be completely honest, I do not know exactly what the 9.76" rear axle and 3.42 axle ratio in the max trailering package will help which is what comes in the max trailering package. I know it has heavy-duty rear springs as well which I figure would of helped with this sagging. Will I be creating problems with the air bags? Obviously I don't really want to trade in the truck already for a new one due to the lost money on having to pay taxes twice, not to mention the loss in value from having 2,000 miles on it already.
  5. For sale i have OEM Tow Mirrors DQS takeoffs from a 2014 GMC Sierra. I have additional pictures upon request, doesn’t let me upload on here. I’m asking for $500 shipped or local pickup in Dallas, Tx
  6. I'm confused about what trucks are good for towing. Is there a BASIC summary of whether a 1/2, 3/4 1 ton etc is good for towing as to what limit is the GVWR of each rated truck. I know there are other factors to consider. I'm looking for just a basic starting point if there is such a thing. I want to tow around either a TT or 5th wheel between 26 to 30 ft. Of course different weight ratings. Example what is the maximum tow for a 3/4 ton. Ideally, get more truck than needed. Should I start looking at a 3/4 ton and then a 1 ton? What is the max that a 1/2 ton should even be considered. I'm looking to actually live in my RV full time for a year and maybe much longer. Being semi retired, I want some time off from a land based stick and stone structure and explore this great country. I'd like to buy used. What years and models should I avoid for towing? I don't want this to be a bad mouth GM or Chevy trucks. I'm asking for a reliable truck or even a SUV . I'm taking my 3 small dogs with. Long story, she is divorcing to find herself or some bleep. And I will not abandoned these dogs we have had for the last 10 plus years as she will do. So.... I want time away, and just some time exploring. Any help of truck to choose would be fantastic.
  7. I recently installed some aftermarket Tor mirrors on an 03 and the glass vibrates/shakes when driving on normal roads and on the highway. I was thinking about putting some left over Sound deadening on the back of the glass, as a way to mass load them to slow the shaking. I don't really mind the shaking too much but if I already have something that will help with it, it's worth a shot!? What are your thought about this?
  8. I know the 6112s are semi-new to the community. My question is what would be the lowest possible notch I can install these and still have enough clearance to fit 275X 65R 20 KO2s. I’d imagine the notch settings are similar to the 5100s accept there is 1 extra notch I believe. I have been searching online for the past week and cannot find anyone that confirms the lowest possible setting to fit these tires. I know I can install them at the highest setting and fit just fine, But I am trying to keep rake in the rear due to occasional towing and i do not want to add a leveling block to the rears. I was thinking the third notch (1.25” of lift) would work but I’m not sure if It will get rubbing. Does anyone have any idea on this? I currently have a 2.5 inch leveling spacer but do not want to install it when I switch to the Bilstein 6112s. Thanks!
  9. I have a set of Trail Ridge tow mirrors for 2014+ for sale (Power adjust, heated, turn signal). They are in great shape and everything works, No scratches. Only had these on my truck for about 6 months, however decided I liked the smaller regular color matched dl8 mirrors I originally had and went back to them. Asking $150.
  10. Hey All, New to the forum. Few questions. There is a truck I am interested in and unfortunately I cannot rely on the sales person. Here are the build details from the sticker. What I am curious about is, is this trailering package also known as the "Max Towing Package" ? Reason I ask is the hitch is a GM V-5 which is rated at 12,000/1,200. The owners manual also says the following... 1500 4x4 crew cab short bed 5.3L V8 - 3.42 - MTW 9,100 - GCWR 15,000 5.3L V8 with 8-speed Auto and Enhanced Towing package - 3.42 - MTW 10,700 - GCWR 16,700 5.3L V8 - 3.73 - MTW 10,700 - GCWR 16,700 What I am ultimately trying to do is figure out what this truck will ultimately haul and what its max towing capacity will be. I cannot tell by the build. So I would appreciate any insight/info. The manual says a few things, the door jam says another, and I want to be sure. Build details 2018 - 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 - Z71 - short bed All star package 18" P265/65R18 allterrain, blackwall tires 3.42 rear axle ratio (But not sure if this one has 3.73 due to the trailering package. 11. Hi guys, first time poster here. If I'm in the wrong section mods please let me know! About 2 weeks ago I bought a 2018 Silverado 1500 LTZ 4x4, used with 12k miles. It has the tow package. I absolutely love the truck, it's great, and other Chevy owners seem super nice so far! My Chevy has all the features of the tow package, including the chrome grille, trailer brake, pre-installed hitch, etc. but instead of the tow mirrors it has regular mirrors. Based on my research they are the "DL3" mirrors (heated, auto folding, etc.) but further research tells me that it should be pretty hard to install DL3 mirrors and make them fully functional if they didn't come on the truck since the wiring harness interacts with the memory functions of the seats etc... This makes me wonder where my tow mirrors went, and what's up with the OEM DL3 mirrors being there instead? Did the factory offer a towing package with regular mirrors at some point in order to "exhaust" their parts bin as they prepared for the 2019 Models, or did the previous owner really go to such extreme lengths to remove the tow mirrors? I've attached a picture to illustrate what I mean. Any input is appreciated. Thanks guys!
