Recently bought a 2019 Silverado 1500 LD with the 5.3 and 6 speed. Have been getting a clunking/thud from a dead stop since day one. Checked u bolts as I’ve read loose u bolts have been an issue with these trucks for whatever reason, still same deal. Seems worse from takeoff on an incline. Any input would be appreciated. I have an appointment to have the dealer look at it. Have zero faith in dealers though so here I am. Thanks in advance for any insight.

2017 GMC Sierra 1500 6.2L Transmission Hard Shifts/Clunks
Eck21 posted a question in Ask the GM Technician
I have a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali 6.2L with the 8 speed transmission (73,000 miles). When shifting from park to drive/reverse there is a clunk and also when the truck is accelerating from low RPMs there’s a hard shift from 1-2 & 2-3 gear. I’ve taken it to the dealer multiple times and they “can’t find an issue” with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! IMG_6286.MOV- 1 reply

So I finally gave up on waiting for a fix for the 8 speed and its many mis-behaviors and had my truck tuned by a local custom tuner that has been working with LS/LT motors and transmission tuning for many years. He plugged in his laptop and rode with me for over two hours. The truck is a new animal. Great at shifting and the engine acts like the beast it should be. My truck is a 2015, 6.2L 8 Speed, 23,000 miles. It has always had the low speed clunk and recently developed the shudder, especially in 8th at steady state highway speeds. Here is some of what was done. AFM shut off, Torque Management shut off, Variable cam timing adjusted to performance lift, 1st gear set to hold until 11 mph, higher shift pressure for next few gears, torque converter set to 0% slip, raised speeds for converter lockup especially in 8th. Other parameters were adjusted, but these were the main ones. Some of what was learned. The TC was slipping too much when trying to lock at light load (half in half out) causing the shudder. It was also trying to lock at too low of a speed/RPM almost lugging the engine (again most pronounced in 8th). No more shudder in any gear. It does take a decent speed (over 60-65 to lock up in 8th, but once locked it will stay locked below 60 unless I kick it in the pants or the load increases). As most of you experience, 1st gear was trying to get to third as quickly as possible. Now I can move through parking lots without trying to throw a U joint. There were more learnings but these 2 are the big ones. I will probably lose a bit of MPG in town driving (I am fine with that) but the 60 mile trip home at freeway speeds netted 20.1 MPG ... not enough loss to consider if any. Performance is incredible. I floored it from a stop a couple days later, and had to back off to preserve the tires as it started roasting them. Shifting at full throttle was impeccable. Longevity (as long as I dont drive it live a sports car) theoretically will be better than it was with all the clunks and shudders. I am thrilled with the results. If any of you live near Van Buren Arkansas, and are interested I will pass on the contact info.

I drive a 2014 gmc sierra crew cab. bought it with a clunk in the rear and have since then replaced the leaf spring hangers (because one snapped in half), and the shackles. i have also greased the leaf springs with suspention grease, along with everything else that could be greased. Tried cleaning them numerious times. have also retourqued everything along with u-bolts. But still no joy. Never trully thought it was the leaf springs becasue of how it feels and sounds. you can really hear it when driving over cracks, bumps, newly patched road. almost like when my rear end drops back down, something in the suspention is loose or worn and clunks due to it dropping faster than the worn part so a clunk occurs. hard to explain but i have been told to replace the shocks. i truly dont think it's the springs but if anyone had any ideas i would help out greatly, thanks.

I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 LT with the 6 speed transmission. The transmission seems very sloppy to me and almost every time I am coming to a stop, the transmission will clunk while shifting down. The truck has around 80,000 miles on it and did have some front end damage to it but i don’t see why that would have anything to do with the transmission. Has anyone experienced this and/or have a fix?

2016 Chevy Silverado e assist issues ? ¿
Shawnslife posted a topic in 2014 - 2019 Silverado & Sierra
Hey there I am a proud owner of a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado. The issues I wanted to discuss is the new technology in the truck. What I'm referring to is the E assist system. Only 500 of these were released in California, I own one and love my truck but I believe this system is making the truck drive weird. I'm not sure if it's because it's trying to improve fuel economy or just faulty but when I am coming to a stop I can feel a clunk almost like I was rear ended, I can also feel it when taking off and it's annoying. I wanted to see if any of you have had similar problems in your truck and any advise you had or your experience. I brought this issue to the dealer twice and both times they found issues but none with the e assist system or transmission they claim. I have posted a link to a video of what happened on my last experience to my local dealer. Thanks for any help. -
Hi there - new guy from Ohio, but not new to GM trucks. I currently have a '95 K2500 6.5TD, '01 Sierra 2500HD 6.0L, '05 Suburban, '05 Tahoe (sacrificial anode). I've had a link to this thread for long while, but haven't joined the forum until today to discuss this. I called our local dealer to get a price on the slip yoke I need for this issue - actually, mine doesn't make a noise, just feels like the drivetrain slumps off every time I go to move from a stop. I greased it years ago when I was replacing the pinion seal and I think it went away, but it wasn't really all that bad, then. Now it's worse and feels awful to drive, so I want to fix. I called the local dealership and after running my VIN, they told me the yoke I needed was 89058878, but it's only $125, my cost. Is there a chance it's not nickel plated? The rest I've seen are approaching the $300 mark for the nickel plated OEM part.

I put the truck in neutral, like you should, i bring the truck to a stop, and i push the 4lo button. It flashes for about 5-10 secs but then goes right back to 2hi, I've tried rolling about 2-3mph and it still won't even engage. Its a 2002 chevy avalanche z71, with the 5.3L V8. Sometimes when i press it, it engages no problem, but other times, it just flashes and goes right back to 2hi. When i press 4hi, it goes right in, but 4lo is giving me some problems.

This may be a rather strange question, but is it possible to reset the learned driving habits? My 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE 4x4 crew cab drove great for the the first year (new to about 10,000 miles). The truck was very responsive and the AFM was not bad then--it only kicked in at about 45 mph or greater and it was not objectionable. After about a year, the AFM started engaging much more aggressively and at lower speeds--the truck would periodically jerk violently when it entered V4 mode. It began trying hard to avoid downshifting, so there is absolutely no power when you turn corners or start up a hill unless you really shove down on the gas pedal. I distinctly remember a coworker saying, "What's wrong with this thing?!?" soon after the clunking and other stuff started. The dealer said it was learning my driving habits and everything was normal. Now, I have 57k miles on the truck and I really do not enjoy driving it anymore. I have about a 25 mile commute with long stretches of 35 mph speed zones. If I don't drive in M5 or activate the Range device, the truck repeatedly goes "CLUNK, lug, SQUEAK!" as the AFM engages, the truck lugs along for a bit, and goes back to V8 mode (with passive exhaust valve squeak, of course). I have noticed the clunking is much worse when the outside temperature is below about 45 degrees. The dealership says I am stuck with this behavior because it has adapted to my low-speed stretches and there is nothing I can do about it. They say most of their similar complaints come from people who drive at lower speeds. The truck has only been maintained at the dealership--I got tired of them saying I was not maintaining my last truck properly (Mobil-1 changes at 4-5k miles or 45% oil monitor remaining, coolant and transmission flushes at 30-35k, and all fluids replaced at 50k miles, mind you). I have had them do far more maintenance than recommended and I don't hesitate to throw this fact back in their face when they start to say I have done something wrong to cause the bad behavior (they said going too long between oil changes probably caused it until I told them to check their records). They tried pulling the battery and it didn't help anything. I would love to have my truck drive the way it did when it was new. I know I could get a tune, but I have an 84 month, 84K mile warranty and I don't want to risk having too many increments of the flash counter. My dealer says to get a tune when the warranty expires, but I doubt I will keep the truck that long--I honestly don't have much faith that the drive train will hold together. The constant "clunk-lug-squeak!" reminds me of the clown cars you see at a circus. Does anyone know of a way to reset the learned behavior or do I have to live with it until I get rid of the truck? I can get access to SPS if there is a way to resolve this via the dealership tools. Any help would certainly be appreciated!
