Zane Merva Executive Editor / Publisher, GM-Trucks.com April 12th, 2019 A few months ago we started to notice something on our 2019 Silverado that no owner of a brand new vehicle wants to see. Rust. Specifically on our rear bumper, just around the plastic step. It wasn't huge and didn't spread very far from the edge... but we couldn't stop noticing it. There was no excuse for rust on a 8 month old vehicle with less than 10,000 miles. The photo above shows the minimal but noticeable rust patch. It was even happening on both sides and in the same place. The issue seemed odd. Unfortunately, we've just been too busy to bring it by to our local dealership for them to look at. Lucky for us, our procrastination has paid off, because in the time between us first noticing the problem and getting off our lazy asses to drive to our dealer, GM has released a TSB about this very issue. It appears that on most of the early trucks, production of the bumper was completed incorrectly. The steel assemblies should be bent into shape then chrome plated. But that didn't happen in a small part of the early bumpers. The supplier bent the area around the side step after the bumper was chromed. The new folds in the steel damaged the chrome, cracking it and making the truck susceptible to rusting. What's the fix? If your bumper is rusting already, Chevy and GMC will replace it. If it has not yet started to rust, they will apply an automotive grade wax/sealant to prevent rust in the future. If you're unsure if your 2019 has this issue we suggest doing the following: 1. Give your truck a bath for heavens sake! 2. Clean the rear bumper step area with a hose or pressure washer. Front and back! We find lots of dirt collects behind our step in the bumper assembly. 3. Inspect around the foot step area and behind the foot step area. We found rust in both areas! 4. If in doubt, wait for it to rust and kindly ask for a new rear bumper. Our dealership, Banks Chevrolet in Concord, NH has been great getting our rust issue fixed. Our service adviser Justin has kept us in the loop during the repair and gave us a loaner Silverado LT while they have our truck. He even made sure any other outstanding service updates are also applied to our LTZ while it was in the shop. As it turned out, there were six open issues that needed addressed. I’m looking at purchasing a ‘22 Elevation. Unfortunately the truck I’m looking at isn’t equipped with the dual exhaust/bumper, which is what I want. It just has the regular pipe out the side. Does anyone know if the dealer can swap out the bumper and add the dual exhaust? -
First time posting on here, I’ve tried Facebook for answer and have gotten nowhere. I have seen all of the cargo/reverse light mods and can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. I am wanting to add a set of reverse bumper lights to my truck, my problem that I’m trying to figure out is I want to either add a switch on my dash or use the existing cargo lamp switch to power them. I am only wanting my reverse lights to come on when I put my truck in reverse or turn the cargo light switch on but when I put my truck in reverse I do NOT want my cargo lights to come on. I want to be able to use my bumper lights anytime I please no matter if I’m parked or driving down the road but I also don’t want my tail light reverse lights to be on when I turn the switch on. Only when I put my truck in reverse do I want the factory reverse lights on, I don’t want them to be on if I’m driving down the road. I also don’t want my truck to display the R on the dash if I’m driving down the road and I turn them on. I figure I’m gonna need a couple of relays and diode or two but I not exactly sure what I will need or how to add them all to the truck and it function how I want it. I want to be able to add a switch into the bed for the bed lights as well so I need the cargo/bed light switch that I add to work with this setup I’m wanting to add. -
I am interested to see if anyone has come up with a winch mount solution for their rigs. I have seen options to put a front receiver hitch on that would allow you to hang a winch off it but I am looking for something more hidden inside the bumper if possible. Any suggestions or photos?

Hello all, I have searched for ideas on this, and only found a few people who installed "mood lighting" inside the bumper step. I'm wondering how simple or effective it would be to get some real reverse flood lights inside the bumper step? I know you could fill the whole cavity with a tractor light and it would work, but I'd like to still be able to use the step if I need it. So has anyone installed an LED flush mount or similar light that actually throws enough light behind them to use for backing up/ doing work? How does it fit inside the curved surface of the step? The reason is I want the ability to have light behind me for plowing snow. I already replaced the factory reverse and cargo bulbs with LEDs, I think they work fairly nice, but they throw really straight back like a spotlight. I'm hoping to have a little wider path lit up. I don't want to cut the bumper or have lights hanging down below the bumper, but I know those would be alternative options. I know there have been a lot of creative people adding auxiliary lights to their trucks, so I'm hoping someone can show how you were able to do this.

new here. just throwing this out there to see if anyone has info on how hard it is to convert the front bumper on a 2006 Silverado 2500HD to a 2018 Silverado 2500HD or what needs to be done to get it done. heres a picture i found on Facebook of it done. just need more info.

Correct me if I’m wrong. I have a 2016 Silverado 1500 they can fit 33x11.5 factory. Negative Offset in a wheel pulls the wheel out from the inside of the wheel well. so if I have say a -24 mm offset wheel I can accommodate a wider tire. I have mixed reviews on largest tire size. I only have the front leveled 2 in. I just ordered a set of 5 pro comp wheels with -38 mm offset. Could pull the wheel out 1.5 inches. im looking for tires. I wanna run a 305 70 r17 34x12 this should fit with no rubbing? I forgot to mention I have a barricade pre runner front bumper with skids. just looking for some reassurance on that tire size before I order. Looking to order on Thursday.

I have a 2016 silverado and I want to put a winch bumper on. I’ve done a bit of research but I would like to hear some unbiased first hand info. I had a 2005 2500 with a buckstop winch bumper and loved the look and functionality. I would love to see some picture and hear some reviews of what you all have. If there is another thread on this topic please send me the link.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. Just put a deposit on a 2021 Sierra AT4 Carbon Pro w/ 3.0 Diesel. Taking delivery in 3 days. Has anyone found or tried to install LED Light Bars in the front bumper and or behind the grill. I travel a ton to remote locations after daylight hours in northern Alberta, Canada. I need better lights than what comes factory. Those critters are everywhere. Something that looks OEM or similar. Not looking to look like a Desert BAJA truck. Cheers!

2020 Sierra 1500 I saw this mentioned in a thread on here, but after looking through dozens of threads I can't find it again! After struggling to see while in Reverse, I think I'd like to install flush mounted LED pods into the rear bumper footwells in order to provide more light while backing up. Would someone who's done mod this be willing to provide a walkthrough on how to install the lights? (how you installed the light pods, where to splice, what you used to splice, etc)? If you could provide links to what light pods you use or recommend that would be much appreciated! I've got a Putco Blade Quick Connect Harness inbound, which I'll install and use for any splicing. So I bought a used 2014 Sierra SLT All Terrain knowing there were certain aspects that weren’t exactly what I wanted but choosing to sacrifice for mileage and overall package. One of those was that the bumper does not have corner steps by the tailgate. This is proving to be more of a pain than I though especially considering when my current tires are worn I’m swapping to much larger tires and possible a lift. Anybody have ideas or advise on swapping the bumper? Best I’ve seen eBay and a body shop respraying in my body color is best. Am I right?

I BOUGHT A 2012 silverado 2500 in facebook marketplace but the person who had it didnt have the hardware/clips/bolts to put it together. He ziptied it together, I NEED HELP FINDING WHERE I CAN BUY ALL THE HARDWARE to assemble it properly! IN THE IMAGINE I CIRCLED WHAT I NEED

Ok Members, Here is the all inclusive way to swap a GMC K2xx 1500 front bumper to a 2500 Front Bumper. This is for the Sierra only, the Silverado is/may be different. First lets start with what IS needed the part numbers if applicable. HD Grille (PN Varies ) HD Bumper assembly (PN varies) HD "headlight fillers"( GM list's them as 'Top Cap Assembly) --------LH PN 22831429 Paintable --------RH PN 22831430 Paintable HD headlight filler brackets ( GM lists them as Fascia Bracket assembly) --------LH PN 23451021 --------RH PN 23451022 ****I will also mention the Front bumper to inner Frame support brackets. I got them with my 2500 bumper when I purchased it, so I used them, and they work and fit great. Im sure but cant say for certain if the 1500 bumper for frame supports can be made to work. Once all the swap parts are acquired, then you can begin modifying the parts on the current truck The 1500 Bumper mounts have to be used. I attempted to try and use the 2500 brackets and the mounting holes are in the wrong location, as well as it makes the bumper sit way too far forward away from the truck, As for the 1500 modifications, the 3 mounting holes will need slotted so the bumper brackets can sit lower to accommodate the additional height of the new bumper. Reinstall the brackets and drop them down until they hit the frame. ***** I spaced my brackets up a bit off of the frame. I felt the gap between the headlight fillers/grille, and the bumper was too much. with a little spacing you can get the gap nice and tight***** I also used 3 additional washers behind the brackets to space the bracket away from the frame. With out the additional spacing the bumper sat too close and didn't align in the wheel well Once the frame brackets are situated, you can move onto the fascia brackets. they are a simple swap, unbolt the 1500 and swap them for the 2500 brackets Now install the headlight fillers onto the fascia brackets that were just installed. The headlight filler assembly's will also use a bolt location from the 1500 grille that the 2500 does not use. Now its time for the bumper. Install the bumper onto the frame brackets. The 1500 brackets will only allow the Upper hole closest to the grille to be used for attachment. The Bumper will fit pretty tight onto the brackets. As I said earlier I was able to use the 2500 Inner bumper to frame brackets , they were the correct length, and shape to fit around the frame Mounts The last big modification is the fender well trim. The 1500 trim is much longer as shown by the blue tape line. The trim needs cut on the bottom of the tape to align with the headlight fillers When it’s all said and done the top pic is the OEM 1500 Denali and the Bottom is the 2500 Denali Swap (yes I know the fog lights aren’t in but I was excited to take a pic)

I'm looking to buy a painted oem front bumper that doesn't have parking sensors. I have a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT with the chrome front bumper with parking sensors. I was wondering if anyone has drilled an OEM bumper and put in OEM parking sensors? I'm thinking this will be straight forward and shouldn't pose any problems? -
Silverado Air Deflector replacement for 2018 Silverado LTZ 1500

hi guys, I recently discovered damage to the air deflector on my truck, and want to replace it. I did some searching and found the exact part for $298, but found the GM version to be significantly cheaper at $56. Will the GM part bolt up to my truck without any issues? Has anyone ordered a replacement piece for the front bumper to replace one with a license plate bracket. Mine came with the bracket already installed and I live in a state that does not require the bracket. Thinking about ordering the part and putting it on myself, just wondering if it's a hard job or not. -
First time poster this evening and came across this forum after searching/researching my issue online. I recently purchased a 2018 Tahoe Premier with roughly 37K miles on it. Since purchasing I have had a message of "Side Detection Is Temporarily Unavailable" on the info screen upon each start. I have also noticed my SBZA system not to be functioning. Well, after realizing this was more than a setting being turned off or computer issue, I took it into my local Chevy Service center to be inspected. I was surprised to learn of a potential costly fix without an easy work around. Basically my service center was having a difficult time diagnosing the problem at first, but came across a bulletin to check the heat staking for the brackets that attached to the rear bumper modules. They checked and found that the heat staking on my passenger side was pulled away from the bumper and on the drivers side, a bent or improperly repaired bracket. The recommended fix per the bulletin was to replace the rear bumper to correct the concern due to excessive gaping cause by heat staking being pulled away from the bumper cover fascia. Basically a new bumper cover assembly with sensors included in the assembly. This being a fairly costly repair considering the replacement of the bumper cover, additional work and labor, as well as paint. Has anyone dealt with this issue and have any suggestions or any other possible remedies. The folks at my Chevy dealership service feel the sensors can't be adjusted, fixed, or brackets fixed due to the compromising of the heat staking. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am working with the dealership I purchased the used vehicle at to correct, but trying to minimize my out of pocket if it comes to be my responsibility. Thanks in advance! -
Recently purchased a 2019 gmc 2500 longbed I still have my 2015 Sierra 2500 shortbed can I swap front bumpers to get the front bumper sensors. I also want to swap the power folding Mirrors. Are any of these possible options?

So i have a black 2018 sierra 1500 wt with the stock chrome front bumper amd im looking to change it out for a body colour matched bumper. Does anyone know of the bumper off a same year sierra elevation would fit? Or even better does anyone have a part number that would be a direct replacement? Thanks

Recently purchased a 2019 Silverado LD Custom, in Red Hot. I love the truck, but my eye sight requires better road illumination at night. My front bumper is Red Hot steel, without sensors and without driving light cut outs. I'm thinking of keeping an eye out for a used Red Hot OEM bumper with the factory cutout for the driving lights. Two questions - 1) will I simply be able to bolt up the OEM bumper, and plug the OEM diving lights into an already existing plug/harness, that is currently just tucked away and unused because I don't have fog lights and 2) are there good aftermarket driving lights available that don't look "buba"? The design of the front bumper only really has two recesses where they could be mounted, but those recesses are occupied by the tow hooks AND behind the grill looks undoable, since the automatic louvers that close at high speed come pretty close to the back side of the grill when open. Not a big fan of chrome and swapped the back bumper with a black bumper off another truck and also ordered some black vinyl and ONE of my many zillions of my projects was to put it over the front bumper and grill. Since I had the grill off for my new black headlight assemblies I figured I would put one strip on to see how it looks and I like it a lot. I plan on doing all of the smaller strips of the grill as well but this was just a starter to get an idea of how it would come out. Very curious if anyone else has done this or thought of this as I think it’s a great alternative and option to painting it! Actually I’m thinking now I’m just doing the top middle and bottom and leave in the small chrome strips in between.

Hey everyone, I recently had a minor accident and bumped my buddy’s tow hitch and pretty much have destroyed all the cosmetic parts of my 2015 z71 plus package bumper. All brackets and such are fine and I’ve gotten some parts in already including upper cap, but I got an aftermarket shell and when talking to with the body shop we’re both unsure as to if you can put any filler panel and skid plate on it. He was worried that it may not fit but I would assume it should be the same to bolt on( z71, and non z71 filler panels and skid plates) has anyone ever swapped from one trim levels filler panel and skid plate to another? I don’t see a need to buy a $190 skid plate (z71 plus) if I’m just gonna paint it anyway. Thanks in advance!

My parked 2018 got swiped light bumper damage... insurance quote is over 1200 want to upgrade the bumper in the process... but cant tell what looks good on a stock truck... any suggestions?
