Hey everyone, I bought a 2014 Sierra 1500 back in September that was perfect EXCEPT it didn’t come with the oem brake controller. So I contacted my local GM dealer and gave them my vin. They looked up my truck and verified that it was built including the trailering package. This is important because I’ve seen that your trucks computer has to be programmed to accept the oem trailer brake controller, the piece isn’t just plug and play. So I verified this with the dealership. *I’m really thrown off that my truck has everything in the trailer package for that year except for the brake controller* I purchased an OEM piece from another GM dealer on eBay, ACDelco and everything. Plugged it in and haven’t received an alert but I also can’t tell if it’s working. I’m going to try plugging a trailer with brakes in and see if anything changes or if the controller does anything. But from what I’ve seen I should already see a new info page for the brake controller. I’ll update the thread later whether or not it worked, regardless I’ll leave the thread up in case anyone else is in the same boat. If anyone has suggestions or advice it would be much obliged.

I have a 2019 Sierra HD with integrated brake controller. I'm towing a 5th wheel camper with two axles and electric brakes on each. Behind the camper I'm town an ATV trailer with two axles, but only one of them has an electric brake. Towing either of the trailers individually there are no issues with the trucks brake controller to control the brakes on the trailer. But with both trailers connected the truck won't apply any 'juice' to the brakes. It does nothing - no brakes on their trailer. When I manually apply the brake controller it does nothing. GM is telling me the truck is only designed to handle two sets of electric brakes and if I want to handle 3, I would need to add an after market controller to control the 2nd trailer separately. I can understand that, but does it make sense the trucks computer/controller would not apply any 'juice' to the brakes when it senses too much resistance via the 3 sets of brakes? Has anyone had this issue? How did you resolve?

Hello New to the forum, just took delivery of a 2019 Tahoe LS Custom, and I made sure it had the Max Tow Package. this includes an integrated brake controller. I'm still breaking in the Tahoe, only 100 miles on it so far, but today I hooked it up to my trailer to check things out. All the lights work as expected on the trailer. Tested the built-in trailer brake controller: Pushing the gain controls or the manual lever triggers the display on the speedometer area. Pressing the gain up/down buttons produces what you'd expect on the display: gain increases or decreases. BUT: Moving the manual operation lever does nothing, the 'output' line on the display does not move. I would expect it should. With gain at max and the manual lever held to max, the trailer moves, brakes don't seem to be applied. They were working fine when I last used it with my prior vehicle. Tried with trailer mode engaged and displayed, no difference, trailer plugged in, no difference. I haven't done any more testing yet, thought I'd ask first if the output should move without a trailer attached. Or if there is something that needs to be configured to enable the controller, found nothing in the Owner's Manual about that... Any help appreciated...
