Hello, I just signed up to get some help with my work truck. It's a 2005 Silverado 2500HD base model with the 6.0L auto and manual transfer case and has 280,000 kms. The issue I'm having is with the front axle actuator staying locked even with the transfer case in 2wd. I've had this issue for about a month now and previous google searches suggested that the actuator on the front axle might be the culprit so just today I tried replacing the actuator but that did not fix the problem. If I shift the transfer case into 4H and then back to 2H the dash light will go out briefly for a few seconds but then comes on again. Is there a sensor or switch on or inside the transfer case that might have gone bad? Is there a way to test the wiring from the transfer case to the axle actuator? I did notice a wiring plug near the linkage on the transfer case and I pulled it to check for corrosion or water or anything but it was clean and looked fine, I put in some dielectric grease and plugged it back in. The wiring plug into the axle actuator was clean and dry as well. I'm kind of out of ideas now and am hoping someone here may have had the same issue and knows of a fix. TIA

So my 05 Silverado developed a slight rubbing noise from in the front end that gets worse when I turn left and better when I turn right. Also, twice in the last week or two while turning left in 4wd there has been a loud popping noise with a little bit of a buck that I tentatively diagnosed as a binding CV joint. The axles look ok, no torn boots or anything, but they're old and both front hubs are brand new. I ordered a pair of new axles for the front but now I'm questioning things. Another symptom is that sometimes when I'm stopped at a stoplight and I put it in 4wd, as I pull away there will be a metal on metal clicking noise and the truck acts like it's in 2wd until the clicking stops. Once the clicking stops, 4wd works normally. Two questions: 1) Do you guys agree that it seems like it's the axles or do you have other ideas? 2) Bad 4wd actuator? Could the binding CV have caused that?

Hey all! 1990 GMC K1500 I'm working on my old farm truck and sprucing her up. Since we bought, it the 4wd has never engaged. It wasn't the biggest deal. Now, I'm looking at putting some money into her and getting some things fixed up. The actuator is getting power and I have pulled it out and shifted to 4-HI. The pin/plunger comes out the full length and i cant physically push it back in. I have ordered a new one since they are cheap and its a 5 min replace. Since it seems to be in good condition and working, what should be my next step in figuring out why the 4wd wont engage?

Recently lost my 4WD when shifting it from 2WD to 4WD. I have electronic shift dial on the dash. I've replaced front diff Encoder motor, T-case Shift motor. Last week after I swapped the Tcase motor the 4WD worked again for about 2 days. Now its out again. Ran codes on it today at Oreilly's and its got CO 387 and CO 374. Looks like the 374 is a 4WD speed Sensor? and that failing is throwing the other code 387? Any ideas on what the root cause would be?

I discovered this problem while trying to pull into parking spaces; that when the 4WD is engaged I cannot turn the wheel all the way left or right without disengaging the transmission and revving the engine. This has led to several near-accidents in busy parking lots full of holiday shoppers when I suddenly stop moving and have to put my hazard flashers on mid-turn. I then put it in 2WD and park. The work-around I have come up with is to put it in 2WD after entering a lot but before trying to park, which is first off ridiculous and also not always realistically possible. I apologize if someone has already posted this issue, and will gratefully accept being pointed in that direction. I leased the truck at the end of September, well after the dealer should have flushed the transmission fluids of their entire inventory. Thank all of you for your help and I hope you are having a great day.
