We are.  I got the worst of it, broken foot, and the rest of my family has/had seatbelt bruising.  The other guy was “ran off the road” by a moron passing us and the truck in front of us, going into a blind curve, over a hill.  He then lost control on the dirt shoulder by over correcting, re-enterred the road, airborn, watched his front wheels flip from left (to get on the road) to full right.  EMTs were saying that he was dead on impact.  The moron is still out there somewhere.  The truck in front of us couldn’t keep up with him, trying to get more information to give CHP.  He was overheard saying that the moron was doing more than 100MPH.

I'm sorry to hear that.  I've had one of those dash cams sitting on my Amazon wish list for some time now, maybe it's time to get one.  Might help catch the perp.  We'll pray for your recovery and your family and for the other fella's loved ones.

UPDATE:  They tracked down the moron that caused the wreck, now we're waiting for the accident report to get done with its run through the CHP gambit to be released publicly, so we can sue the moron and his insurance.

UPDATE:  IDIOT had his arraignment on 12/11/18, and pleaded "NOT GUILTY."  REALLY?!!!!

 

On 12/21/18, my wife got a copy of the accident report.  It stated that CHP was actively looking for IDIOT's car, and wondered if he frequented TWS, where the crash happened, so a patrol officer sat in the dirt patch that I thought about ducking into, and sure enough, he rolled through there.  CHP lite him up, pulled him over, and cited him for not having a front tag on the vehicle, "fix-it-ticket."  While the officer was writing him up, he noticed that IDIOT still had the dealership streamer hanging on the keys.  They still did NOT have enough to go on, so they let him continue on his way.  From there, they pursued him as the Hit/Run suspect.

 

On 1/8/19, we went to IDIOT's Pre-Preliminary Hearing.  DA asked to postpone, "a continuance," it because CHP didn't deliver their photos until the day before, and the judge and DA are good friends.  Wife and I sat in the back corner of the courtroom, when the DA walked in, she advised the court that 12 (TWELVE) of the deceased driver's family were there.  When IDIOT was dismissed and left the courtroom, ALL 14 of us stood up.  Out in the hallway, my wife and I introduced ourselves to the DA, and I made sure that IDIOT could hear me, as I introduced myself.  "Joey's" family was glad that we were there, and we talked with them for a good 30 minutes, 20 of that was my wife and Joey's mom talking/crying.  Hoping that Joey's mom got some closure from talking with my wife. 

I found out that February's date got postponed, March's got postponed (plus he failed to appear), April's went forward to Preliminary, May's Preliminary got postponed until yesterday.

 

UPDATE:  Fast-forward to yesterday's preliminary trial, the case is GOING TO COURT.  May be around the end of the summer, or shortly later.  My wife went with me, as I had to testify, the driver of the Ridgeline was there, he had to testify, and about 20 of "Joey's family" was there.  Idiot had about 10 or so of his family there, including his girlfriend that he officially gained the night of the accident.  His dumbass PDA tried to discredit my testimony by asking if I had been drinking that day ("Not even during communion at church that morning."), if I wore corrective lenses ("No."), if I wore contacts (like that was different than the previous question, "No."), if I had taken drugs that day ("Not even over the counter, nor prescription."), and a few other stupid ass questions that I kept volleying back at him.  From the way it was sounding after court, idiot has to either get an actual attorney or another public defender in Bakersfield, which may add more time to when the trial will be.

Kern County Superior Court - Bakersfield on 5 August.

SURPRISINGLY, our court date is now in March 2020 sometime.

Little punk finally had his day in court, March 6 2021, and the jury found him GUILTY on both counts (March 15, 2021):
- Vehicular Manslaughter with Neglect

- Hit/Run with Injury

 

He faces up to 11 years in jail.

 

Sentencing is scheduled for April 12, 2021.

Yeah, and "with good behavior," he can be out in 1/3 the time (11 months), and he's 4 months in, right now, since he has been incarcerated since March 23.

Other than somewhere in Tehachapi, I don't know.  Haven't seen or heard anything since we left the courthouse Tuesday morning.

Idiot was released from SAN QUENTIN just before or over Easter Weekend, after serving about 12 months.

 

I thought he was in Wasco. 12 months ain't ******, but glad it was San Quentin. I drive up Willow Springs every Friday, & pass by Joey's memorial.
