Polaris' special forces ATV is insane

The U.S. Government announced this week that its replacement for the Hummer won't be a large, flat Jeep-sort of vehicle, but rather more of an MRAP (mine resistant armored personnel vehicle). We all know that Hummer was fantastic at meeting its design parameters, but that those were way off base for warfare in urban areas strewn with IEDs. That leaves a gap. The military needs a smaller, lighter, faster, more nimble vehicle for fast action on any terrain it calls a light tactical all-terrain vehicle (LTATV). The Polaris MRZR2 and MRZR4 two and four passenger off-road military vehicles fill that LTATV need.

Polaris has been providing the Special Forces with MRZR and other vehicles on a limited basis and has vehicles in service in over 20 countries. Today the company announced that is has received an $83 million, five year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) with the Department of Defense. In other words, an open ended contract with a not to exceed dollar value. The contract also includes spares and support services.

As the above images show, the vehicles can carry two or four soldiers. Trailers can add capability and tow considerable cargo. Gun mounts are available. Below is the big-brother of these Polaris vehicles, the DAGOR.
