    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    10/10/2015
Sure Car and Driver's focus is not trucks, but they know a lot more about trucks than most. They always have a large SUV or truck in the fleet to tow cars and they also use them as photo and logistics vehicles on their shoots. In the just-released November 2015 issue* CD compares the new Tacoma and the Colorado in great detail. Their driving covered almost 2,000 miles and the trucks they compared were high-end models with the V6 engines and 4WD. The Colorado was $38,720 and the Tacoma $37,665 as-tested.

  4. Toyota Makes Its First Cool Advertisement Video

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    10/6/2015
Our most recent story highlighted Chevy's use of the rodeo cowboy (and girl) image to represent the new 2016 Silverado. The upside to the advert is that the real-life athletes in its advertisement most likely do drive trucks, and the chances are they drive Chevy trucks. Over at Toyota doing that would not work as well. Toyota's trucks are trying hard to be American, but using the cowboy theme would fall flat. That's we thought this video by Toyota was pretty cool. Toyota knows its demographics and this video seem to be spot-on.

  5. Chevy's New Silverado Promotion - Cowboys (and Girls)

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    10/6/2015
Certain themes just work for advertisers. Put a handsome, athletic guy in a vehicle and have him say a few words and watch the sales roll in. Buick used Peyton Manning to push the Verano. Lincoln uses Matthew McConaughey to push crossovers. The problem some might have is the believability of these multi-million dollar stars driving those vehicles in real life. Chevy won't have that problem with this new "Chevy Rodeo" advertising. The plan is to use real-life rodeo stars to promote the Chevy Silverado HD.

  7. Which Way Would You Prefer Cadillac Style? Hard or Soft?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    10/5/2015
Cadillac's future is again in spotlight. This time it is GM development Chief Mark Reuss and Cadillac's new President (and former Infiniti President) Johan De Nysschen debating Cadillac's style. Mark Reuss is a second-generation GM employee who started in engineering and rose through the ranks. He was the number two person after Mary Barra for the top job at GM when she was chosen, making him the luckiest guy in the automotive world given the fun she's had. Reuss is also the kind of guy that shows up unannounced at media track days with a helmet in jeans and sneakers to ask the "car nuts" what they think of the new Corvette or Cadillac CTS-V (as this writer has witnessed first-hand). He wants the Caddy style to remain the way it is. Uniquely American, edgy and hard.

  8. Second Weird Ford Raptor Video - Why Does Ford Show These?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    10/5/2015
Two months ago we shared Ford's teaser video showing the next Raptor in testing. The truck gingerly crawled through the forest. Now Ford has a new video. Since this is the second one were expecting to see drifts, jumps, rocky climbs, and high-speed runs off-road. You be the judge. Is a truck video that warns not to get water above the hubs some kind of joke, or is Ford just showing this truck off too soon? The new Raptor is due in one year.

  9. GM Posts Big Truck & Crossover Sales Numbers

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    10/5/2015
Overall, GM grew at slightly below the industry's average pace in September, but the company's trucks and crossovers again posted notable results. GM's share of the U.S. truck market continues to edge up now touching 39.2% (retail). Very good news to GM, but less so to our members, is that GM's average transaction price is up $800 month over month. Year over year, GM is bringing in a whopping $3200 more per vehicle on average. More of that money is profit too. Incentives dropped $800 compared to last year.

Today GM confirmed that it will partner with Navistar to offer commercial Class 4/5 commercial vehicles in the U.S. market. GM-Trucks reported this would happen back in July (citing Bloomberg as our source). Rather than just a badge-engineered partnership, GM's Chevrolet division is planning to supply drivetrains and components. Rolling Chassis will be supplied by Navistar, as will final assembly if we read the tea leaves correctly.

  15. GM Duramax Diesel to Be On-Road Tested For Emissions

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    9/29/2015
Just hours after GM-Trucks.com received word directly from General Motors that the Colorado and Canyon Duramax diesel trucks would come on-time, Automotive News has received additional details casting that into doubt. Scott Yackley, Chevrolet Trucks assistant chief engineer, told Automotive News “The EPA and CARB told us they are going to do on-road testing." Automotive News presumed that meant that the trucks might be delayed (since they have not been tested yet, and sales were to begin in October).

  16. GM-No Delay of 2016 Colorado and Canyon Duramax Diesels

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    9/28/2015
GM-Trucks.com reached out to our contacts at General Motors today and asked if the Volkswagen dirty-diesel cheating scandal would in any way delay the launch of the new 2016 Colorado and Canyon Duramax Diesel trucks due in October. The answer was all good news. GM confirmed that "Colorado and Canyon diesels are on track to go on sale later this fall. These are diesel trucks with urea after treatment systems so we don't expect any impact." Urea treatment is one of the catalyst systems used to control the output of NOx, a pollutant.

  20. 2017 Ford Super Duty Called Smarter and Tougher

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    9/24/2015
We won't argue that the Ford Super Duty for 2016 can be made smarter by Ford. GM seems miles ahead with regard to infotainment, connectivity, and telematics. But when Ford called its new Super Duty its toughest ever, given its aluminum skin, our ears perked up. Sure enough the very first thing Ford mentions in its blurb is the Super Duty's "high-strength steel frame." Ford has also beefed up the springs, axles, and suspension of the Super Duty.

Self-leveling systems can prevent this and keep a vehicle more stable while towing. Air Lift has just introduced its new SmartAir II system.

  23. Buick Cascada Prices Will Get Attention

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    9/24/2015
As an auto enthusiast who reads pretty much every automotive publication, one of my biggest pet-peeves is that the magazines hate to compare "premium" brands with the "lesser" brands. Based on my own testing, and from a careful look at quality surveys from a variety of sources, what used to be called a luxury brand is no longer the case. That is why I loved the infographic GM created for the 2016 Cascada convertible comparing it to the Audi A3 cabriolet.

  25. VW Head Quits - Chevy Cruze Only Affordable Diesel Car In US

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    9/23/2015
Martin Winterkorn, the head of Volkswagen, the world's largest automaker by sales volume quit today. Winterkorn, an engineer known as a micromanager said “As CEO I accept responsibility for the irregularities that have been found in diesel engines and have therefore requested the Supervisory Board to agree on terminating my function as CEO of the Volkswagen Group. I am doing this in the interests of the company even though I am not aware of any wrongdoing on my part.” VW has suspended sales of its affected diesel cars in the U.S. market. Although many journalists have expressed the opinion that VW is "owning up to" the widespread emissions cheating, that is debatable. Researchers in Europe were on to the cheating as far back as 2011. In the U.S. when the EPA confronted VW about the mismatch between road observable NOx emissions and the output during emissions testing sessions, VW stonewalled. It took the threat by EPA of not approving VW's 2016 models for sale to get VW to admit it had cheated.
