  1. For 150 Ohioans the Duramax 6.6 Is More Than An Engine Upgrade

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/10/2015
The new Duramax diesel engine used in the heavy duty Sierra, Silverado, Express, and Savanna is built in Ohio at a joint venture between GM and Isuzu. The plant is appropriately called DMAX and it has crafted 1.7 million engines since it opened in 1998. Shinichi Suzuki, President, CEO and chief operating officer for DMAX says of the JV, “It has been the successful partnership among GM, Isuzu and IUE-CWA Local 755 that continues to bring new investment dollars to our plant." GM's truck sales have just completed their 20th straight month of growth. One thing that means is that 150 people living in the general area of Moraine, OH will get a job. And not just any job, the 150 new employees will presumably be IUE-CWA Local 755 union members. New union jobs are not exactly in abundance these days.

  2. GM Makes Bold Claims About Impressive New Malibu Hybrid

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/10/2015
The all-new 2016 Chevy Malibu Hybrid is coming to market at an impressively low starting price under $29K. The new Malibu Hybrid shares a lot of its fuel-miser hardware with the Volt. The fuel economy numbers have not yet been set by the EPA, but GM thinks they are going to be impressive. GM's press release today says, "Malibu Hybrid offers a GM-estimated 48 mpg city, 45 mpg highway – and 47 mpg combined, unsurpassed in the midsize car segment." Although those number are fantastic, the 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid has official EPA numbers of 50/45/47 now. So the whole "unsurpassed" part is maybe a little over-eager. Regardless of the marketing buzzwords, 47 MPG combined is damn good.

  3. What Goes "Whump...Whump...Whump" and Makes Trucks?

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/10/2015
A few years back doing a story on clean energy I was surprised to learn that Texas was the leader in North America in terms of wind power production. So I was not very surprised to learn that General Motors is planning to use wind-generated electricity to partly power its Arlington, TX plant. The Arlington plant, located in a suburb of Dallas, makes 'Burbans, Escalades, and Yukons.

  4. Pre-auto Recovery Story Was Spot On About Trucks

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/8/2015

Swapalease is a company that brings together people trying to get out of a lease early and those who want to find a great deal on a short lease. One thing we like about the company is it does data-driven analysis of the auto market and then publishes the results. While researching a truck-lease story we came across an old 2010 story by Swapalease. It was a prediction that trucks might lead the way in the auto recovery. Although sales are robust now, from about 2008-2010 they were terrible and people were worried some automakers might fail - again.

  5. Why the Chevy Colorado Is Not In This Holiday Picture

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/6/2015
Last year in advance of the holiday sales season I did an analysis of the sales volume over the two prior years. Indeed, vehicle holiday sales promotions do result in a big sales bump for most brands. Lexus is one of the top brands for sales-related gains during the holidays, but Chevy is no slouch. Last year, Chevy's December was 20% greater than its November sales.

  6. Why GM fans should root for the Chevy Bolt

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/3/2015
The Chevy Bolt battery electric car is due to be shown for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. You're mostly a truck fan with a bit of a muscle car fetish, so what the heck do you care? Well, simply put, it is in your financial interests that this car succeed. GM has to sell zero emissions vehicles in order to meet government mandates in 12 states including the largest car market in the U.S. (California). Car makers like GM have been putting off the inevitable for many years, and in some cases they pay other car companies that have extra zero emissions credits for them in order to comply. Would you rather see GM handing Tesla $15K per car credit it needs or selling cars built in its factories and minimizing its losses on green cars?

  7. Finding New Roads Driving the Sixth Generation 2016 Camaro SS

    Teaser Paragraph:

    Zane & Josh Merva
    GM-Trucks.com
    November 2015

As we cut a path north of Boulder, Colorado there was no doubt, the 2016 Camaro SS I was driving couldn’t have made me feel more alive. The tight mountain road leading to Estes Park climbed and the temperature fell. A sense of danger started to creep into what we had planned to do. A 455 horsepower muscle car with 20-inch summer performance tires was perfect on a warm afternoon. However, it was the day before Halloween in the Rocky Mountains and the temperature hovered just above freezing. As we crested the ridge above the city thick clouds rolled overhead and our target came into view below. “I wonder if we’ll have enough time to do this?” Josh quipped. Not long after it started to sleet.

  8. GM Sales Highlights - Some Crazy Good Numbers

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    12/1/2015
GM's monthly sales report seems to just get better and better each month. GM's truck sales are up for their 20th straight month. Commercial vehicle deliveries are now up for their 25th straight month. Crossovers are flying off the lot and Cadillac's SRX is now the brand's top seller growing rapidly (but still only half the sales rate of the Lexus RX350).

  11. GM finds room to make more Colorados and Canyons

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    11/25/2015
The Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are a huge success for GM. Each month the trucks sell out. The new Duramax diesel and Canyon Denali versions of the mid-size trucks are keeping interest alive and the Colorado is the Truck of the Year two years in a row now. It must be killing the bean counters at GM to know that with all this success Toyota Tacoma still outsells the pair by a huge margin each month. The Tacoma is a great truck beloved by its fans, but it is not buyer interest that makes the GM twins sell less each month, just production capacity. That may soon change.

  13. Guess How Much Tony Soprano's Escalade Just Sold For

    Teaser Paragraph:

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    11/22/2015
The cars of the Sopranos were all well cast, but Tony's 2003 white Cadillac Escalade was perfect. This car was one of two identical cars used it he series' last three seasons. James Gandolfini, who has now passed away, signed the vehicle prominently in three places with a Sharpie including on the back of the driver's seat headrest. Boston-based, RR Auction reports it just sold for $119,780. We've attached a clip of the car in one of its most memorable scenes. Be forewarned the language is a little more vulgar than PG-13. Enjoy

  15. A hydrogen fuel cell Colorado? Yup.

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    11/17/2015
Before you slam the keyboard, this fuel cell electric vehicle Colorado is a conversion being done by GM in collaboration with the U.S. Army. The Army loves quiet, powerful vehicles that have "exportable power." Meaning a power port that soldiers can plug things like battery chargers and lights into. The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development & Engineering Center (TARDEC) is planning to build the vehicle and subject it 12 months of real-world military use. Charlie Freese, executive director of GM’s Global Fuel Cell Engineering activities commented on the project, saying, “Hydrogen fuel cell technology is important to GM’s advanced propulsion portfolio, and this enables us to put our technology to the test in a vehicle that will face punishing military duty cycles.”

  16. Name a Better LuxTruck Than the '16 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate 1 2

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    11/17/2015
GM calls luxury trucks "a growing niche." That is a vast understatement. The basic equipment in a mid-priced full-sized truck now rivals most luxury cars for content. At GMC, the Denali trim is always the top-spec truck. Until now. GMC's new Denali Ultimate Sierra has just raised the bar higher.

  17. Chevy Camaro & Colorado Motor Trend Car & Truck of the Year

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham
    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com
    11/17/2015
GM's Chevrolet division has two new awards for the trophy case. First, the 2016 Chevy Colorado is the Motor Trend Truck of the Year. This is the second consecutive win for the Colorado. Reading over the very detailed Motor Trend story accompanying the award announcement, it is clear that it was the Duramax diesel engine option that pushed the Colorado to the win again this year. One Motor Trend Editor summed up the Duramax nicely, saying, “That it can tow 7,600 pounds and is averaging 24 mpg after two loops of mixed driving speaks volumes about this engine. Further, the diesel smooths out the shifts of the transmission and essentially gives it less work to do, as the gearbox doesn’t need to hunt to get the truck going—the massive torque curve has got that covered. Why you’d buy any other engine in this truck is beyond me.”

At the event, Tom Bullock, chief of employer outreach, DoD Office of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), said, “General Motors is setting a high standard for all automobile manufacturers to follow by providing above and beyond support of veterans, many of whom currently serve in the Guard and Reserve."
