  5. Chevy looks back on its canopy work truck past

Chevrolet looked back on its urban delivery vehicle past in a press release retrospective today. Chevrolet began making canopy top and sides work trucks back in 1936. Small business owners used the trucks to bring their goods for sale directly to the neighborhoods of American cities. The top image is a 1939 Half-ton City Express. These trucks were a huge part of Chevrolet's business in pre-WWII days, accounting for hundreds of thousands of sales.

  6. Do you consider Chevrolet a "Truck Brand"

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com

    4/2/2015

A recent award won by Chevy we reported on caught our attention after we read it a few times. The reason is that a well-respected Detroit-based automotive data company, Vincentric, named Chevrolet the best "Truck Brand." I don't think many of the members of this forum would argue that Chevrolet deserved the Award for making the trucks with the best value, but is Chevrolet a "Truck Brand?"

  7. 2016 Chevy Malibu may be what GM needs to balance sales 1 2

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com

    4/1/2015

As our prior post reported, GM's sales are trending towards trucks and SUVs in a big way. Car sales are continuing a multi-month plunge. This is not a trend all manufacturers have seen. Toyota's car sales have not declined though it does sell every extra truck it chooses to make. GM needs to balance its vehicle sales to avoid CAFE fines and to stay a major player in the car market. The all-new Malibu will be critically important to Chevy and GM, and it may have just the right formula.

Although GM vehicle sales were down slightly year over year in March, truck and SUV sales continued to grow at a steady pace. Conversely, car sales at GM have simply nose-dived. This trend has been going on since mid to late 2014. Trucks, vans, and SUVs were up 14 percent at GM. Car sales were down an incredible 21 percent. Crossover sales were up by 6%.

  11. Don't count out tiny trucklets like Chevy Trax

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com

    3/26/2015

When Mark Reuss was President of GM North America (he has since been promoted), he OK'd the Buick Encore, which used an existing subcompact platform. When he did, he and GM created a new market segment now called the premium subcompact crossover. In an interview with Automobile, he recounted how the motor press and others called him crazy. The Encore went on to become the number one seller at Buick. Now Chevy Trax is starting to make waves. Just for some perspective on how many of these are selling, the Trax outsold the Chevrolet Corvette and the GMC Canyon in February. However, that isn't why it is special to GM and Chevy.

  12. 2016 Buick Enclave Tuscan celebrates an important vehicle

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com

    3/26/2015

Buick credits the Enclave for the company's comeback. Eight years ago, the 3-row premium crossover bumped the segment out a bit and was Buick's first new hit. Last year's record sales for the crossover were worthy of some recognition. Thus, Buick has created a well-deserved bronze trophy for itself. The Enclave Tuscan Edition combines the popular Premium and Leather options. The Tuscan will feature a bronze grill and chrome wheels with bronze accents, and will be available in 3 distinctive colors, including White Frost Tricoat, Dark Chocolate Metallic and Ebony Twilight Metallic.

Every other media source will read today's GM press release and think it is about the Chevy Suburban. Not this reporter who has been covering Toyota for three years. GM announced that it built its 10 millionth vehicle this week in Arlington, Texas. It happened to be a Suburban. GM has been producing full-sized SUVs at the plant since 1997.

  15. Chevy says Silverado design cuts crash repair costs

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com

    3/20/2015

Having recently toured a large Chevrolet repair facility in Mass., this writer can personally attest to the fact that GM does design its vehicles so that accident repair costs will be minimized. The owner of the repair facility showed me how GM's front and rear clips on many vehicles have been simplified, and made less expensive so that repairs are not only less costly, but faster for the repair shop, thereby putting you back on the road in your own vehicle sooner.

  16. 2016 Camaro is all-new, not a refresh

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com

    3/19/2015

When the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro drops May 16th fans should expect to see a completely new vehicle. This according to GM and Chevy, who are hyping the upcoming reveal. GM is using the catchphrase "New from the bowtie to the spoiler" to assure fans this is not just a trim and wheel type of refresh.

The new Camaro will be built on the GM Alpha platform (ATS and other models). Every fan of GM should stand up and applaud that GM even has a front-engine, rear-drive platform given the past ten years events. The fact that is possibly the world's best such platform is almost too good to be true. Many brands like Honda, Audi, Lincoln, and Acura don't even have a rear-drive, front-engine platform.

If you or your company have been waiting for an electric Silverado 3500 Class 3 work truck, Efficient Drivetrains may have it. The company announced this week that its drivetrain can propel the Silverado 40 to 50 miles on EV power alone. Better, the truck isn't dead at that point. It is a plug-in hybrid, so when the all-EV power is used up it continues on as a liquid-fueled truck with the added benefit of a hybrid powertrain.

    Teaser Paragraph:

    John Goreham

    Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com

    3/12/2015

Edmunds.com recently asked GM's Global VP of Product Development, Mark Reuss, if he thought Chevy should take on the new Ford F-150 Raptor. Reuss replied that capital was limited, and that was not a priority. We all know that in business-speak that means "Nope ain't gonna happen." The interesting part of the exchange came next. Asked about the Chevy Colorado ZR2, Reuss replied "We showed the ZR2 and said we would like to do that." One might take from that Reuss meant "Heck-yeah!"

The option comes exclusively on the 2WD extended cab Colorado with the 3.6-liter, V6 engine and automatic transmission. Chevy deletes $300 from the cost of the truck for those that choose the delete.
