ABC news reported this week that the number of deaths attributed to the General Motors ignition switch defect is at 124. 269 people were reported injured in addition to that number. It has been more than a year since GM CEO Mary Barra said “We are taking responsibility for what has happened by taking steps to treat these victims and their families with compassion, decency and fairness. We made serious mistakes in the past and as a result we’re making significant changes in our company to ensure they never happen again.”

After more than one year since the fund was started the total is not expected to rise much further. In 2014 General Motors recalled 26,766,833 vehicles. That was roughly four times more than Toyota and six times more than Ford. Given that huge number one would assume that the GM recall was the largest ever, but it was not. According to Car and Driver, the largest recall in history was 21 million vehicles made by Ford and its affiliates to affix a parking brake sticker.
