General motors has settled another 50 wrongful death cases related to the ignition switch defect. According to attorney Bob Hilliard, appointed by the Federal Judge to oversee the settlement of these cases, the total number of victims compensated stands at 174. These are just the officially recognized death cases, not the sum total of the open cases, or the number of cases involving injury.

In related news, we reported yesterday that General Motors has officially admitted wrongdoing in the case and has settled with the Justice Department. For more details please see the prior story here.
