General Motors and Chevrolet are auctioning off the very first COPO Camaro drag car at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, AZ auction Friday January 29th. Serial number 2016COPO001 will be sold to the highest bidder and all proceeds will go to The United Way. The COPO Camaro is a purpose-built drag racer that competes in the NHRA Stock Eliminator class. Its new style was influenced by Courtney Force. The drivetrain is unique to the car, and features a 350 racing engine with a Whipple 2.9-liter supercharger. The name, COPO, is Chevy-insider-speak for "Central Office Production Order." Originally a fleet ordering system, Chevy dealers adopted the system to configure special, unique, performance cars back in the day.

Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports, commented on the sale, saying, “This is a special opportunity to purchase the first of the sixth generation, 2016 COPO Camaro while also helping such a great cause.” The car is expected to cross the stage at about 7pm.
