Ford, as predicted, has named their all-electric truck the F-150 Lightning and announced a livestream introduction of the Ford all-electric F-150 on May 19th at 9:30 ET from Ford World Headquarters, a.k.a the Glass House.

The original F-150 SVT Lightning was a halo truck, heavily influenced by Formula One World Champion Jackie Stewart and powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter Triton V-8. It made 380 horsepower and 450 torques when it bowed out in MY 2004. More importantly, Steward insisted on razor sharp steering, superb handling and super-car braking, making it a monster with sophistication, one that was a blast to drive, street or road course.

Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Center Rendering
The new manufacturing center at the Dearborn-based Rouge Center, once complete, will add 300 jobs and is part of a $700 million investment in building the all-new F-150 lineup, including the first-ever F-150 PowerBoost hybrid. The new jobs will support battery assembly and production of the F-150 PowerBoost hybrid and fully electric F-150.

The Ford all-electric F-150 Lightning will be built following a Ford’s $700 million investment in the historic Rouge Complex which includes a new high-tech manufacturing home for the all-new, all-electric F-150 coming to market in mid-2022. This, of course, pits it against GM’s HUMMER EV SUT.

The reveal will be broadcast live with 30+ ways to watch across physical and digital destinations, including the Ford Facebook and YouTube channels, Twitter, key national publications as well as 18 out-of-home locations such as Times Square in New York City and Las Vegas Boulevard.

Bill Ford, executive chairman, and Jim Farley, chief operating officer and incoming chief executive officer, announce an even deeper commitment to American manufacturing, celebrating the production start of the all-new F-150 at the historic Rouge Complex and unveiling the all-new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center where it will build the all-electric F-150 by mid-2022.

“Every so often, a new vehicle comes along that disrupts the status quo and changes the game … Model T, Mustang, Prius, Model 3. Now comes the all-electric F-150 Lightning,” said Ford President and CEO Jim Farley. “America’s favorite vehicle for nearly half a century is going digital and fully electric. F-150 Lightning can power your home during an outage; it’s even quicker than the original F-150 Lightning performance truck; and it will constantly improve through over-the-air updates.”
