Is your Equinox window dropping? Is your Terrain window dropping? Some owners of 2018-2021 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain Crossovers are reporting their windows are dropping up to a quarter of an inch. Turns out they may be dropping something else, causing the issue.
The problem also brings along potential error messages and wind noise. If you’ve seen “Open Then Close Driver Window” on your driver information center on your Equinox or Terrain, this fix might just apply to your vehicle.
As it turns out, the reason why this is happening and the solution to fixing it are both going to surprise you.
Chevy Equinox / GMC Terrain Window Dropping- The Cause
Are you ready to be surprised? The reason why some owners of these two crossovers may be seeing their windows randomly drop up to a 1/4 of an inch, is….. playing the radio loudly. Yes, dropping the bass can cause window issues!
The vibration from the door speaker can rattle the window motor too much, causing the glass to drop and the window to become out of position. As the two sit very close to each other inside the door assembly, resonance can develop and cause issues with the motor and glass position.
Chevy Equinox / GMC Terrain Window Dropping- The Fix
Thankfully, this is an easy thing to cure. GM technicians have been advised that a simple foam block, placed between the door panel and window motor, can solve this issue. This may not be something you can do at home, because once you disconnect the motor and/or remove the door harness, getting the glass back to the right position can be challenging.
If you have this issue and believe it’s caused by this particular problem, make sure to mention Bulletin #21-NA-046 to your dealer. Also, check out other TSBs we’ve covered.
