The Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe were both fully redesigned for the 2021 model year. The updates brought more space, a new engine choice, and better ride quality from a new independent rear suspension system. Chevy is introducing more updates for the 2022 model year that include new tech features a wider availability of a popular powertrain option.
The 6.2-liter V8 will now be available across three more trims than before: RST, Z71, and Premier. The engine produces 420 horsepower and features a fuel management system to improve gas mileage, even when towing. Chevy notes that customers who order the RST trim with the engine will also get Magnetic Ridge Control. The feature is standard on Premier and High Country trims. Most trims come standard with a 5.3-liter V8 and the Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel is still available on all models except for Z71. No matter the engine, all vehicles get a ten-speed automatic transmission.
Trailering gets a boost for the 2022 model year with up to 13 camera views, including one that displays a virtual transparent view of the road behind the trailer. There’s also a rear trailer view, a picture-in-picture side view, and an available inside-trailer view if an additional camera is equipped.
The SUVs’ infotainment systems pick up Google features, which include Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play built in. The features do not require a connected smartphone to work, and allow the driver to control vehicle functions such as the HVAC system, audio volume, navigation, and more with voice commands. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still standard across the Tahoe and Suburban lines.
All models get more safety features for the new model year. Front and rear parking assist are now standard, along with lane keep assist and lane departure warnings. Other standard features include automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, forward collision alerts, following distance indicators, and automatic high beams.
Chevy has not announced pricing for the new SUVs but says production will start in October.
