Silverado EV Recall- How The Defect Was Discovered

The recall documentation submitted to the US Government details how the potential issue was discovered. It’s a big win for GM’s “Speak Up For Safety” Program:

On November 13, 2023, a GM engineer submitted an issue to GM’s Speak Up For Safety (SUFS) program after
discovering that incorrect seat belt bezels were distributed to the assembly line which installs this part on the
Silverado EV. GM opened a product investigation on November 28, 2023.
GM’s investigation determined that 352 Silverado EV vehicles built between February 23, 2023 and November
14, 2023 may have been built with an incorrect bezel. Sled tests with the incorrect bezel installed at the rear
center seat location showed that under heavy loading (95th percentile male test dummy in a 35-mph frontal
impact) bunching of the belt at the bezel opening may damage or tear the belt.
On February 1, 2024, GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided to conduct a safety recall.
GM is not aware of any field incidents or injuries associated with this defect.
