Check your inbox! Chevrolet is offering a free $250 in Rewards Points to owners of a specific pickup that’s had frustrating issues over the last year.

If you purchased a brand new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado or GMC Canyon in the past year, undoubtedly, you’ve heard of the dreaded “dead battery” problem. For those not aware, for some reason, the brand new model of GM’s popular midsize trucks are getting stuck in a software update. While the computer tries to talk back home to GM’s servers via a cellular or wifi connection, it leaves one or more of the vehicle’s control modules active.

The problem is that the software update may or may not be complete, and the vehicle runs its battery dead. If that happens,  owners of the new Colorado and Caynon will find their pickup randomly unresponsive and dead as a doornail. Sometimes, it’s overnight- other times, it’s at a random stop during the day. Also, strangely enough, jumping the vehicle or recharging the battery sometimes works and sometimes does not. If not, the Colorado or Canyon must be towed to a dealership to reflash the software update manually.

However, Chevrolet is trying to make things right. One member of the GM-Trucks.com 2023 Chevrolet Colorado & GMC Canyon Facebook Group posted the above email they recently received. It seems Chevrolet is offering an apology and some cold hard cash… or well cash in the form of Chevrolet Rewards.

Other members have indicated that they’d gotten a similar email. However, other Colorado and Canyon owners who have had the dead 12v battery issue claim they have not. One member suggested that they received the email because they called Chevrolet Customer Service and complained when the dead battery problem hit their truck. So far, the exact reasoning of who and why certain people are getting Chevrolet Rewards Credits is unknown

So, if you own a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado or GMC Canyon that’s experienced a dead battery, check your inbox and make sure you are signed up for Chevrolet or GMC Rewards. $250 worth of reward points can go a long way toward Genuine Chevrolet Accessories, service, or other parts from your dealer. You can even use these points to shop online at the official Chevrolet Accessory Website.

And if you have not yet signed up for Chevrolet Rewards or GMC Rewards – go do it now! Every vehicle you purchase, accessory you buy, or service appointment you make earns you free points that add up and can be redeemed online or at your local dealership.

If you have any questions about the offer, a complaint, or a dead battery yourself- never feel bad about contacting either brand’s Customer Service and see what they can do. Here are the links for each:
