American Expedition Vehicles is bringing an answer to a question that is as old as time itself: How big of a tire can I fit without a lift? Well, for 2017 through 2022 Colorado ZR2, the answer is now 35 inches—thanks to AEV HighMark Fender Flares.
We could tell you in our own words all about what these badass-looking off-road flares but we’ll just let AEV explain instead:
“AEV HighMark Fender Flares are an absolute game changer for 2017-22 Colorado ZR2 and ZR2 Bison owners! Manufactured in the USA out of extremely durable and UV-resistant ABS plastic, these high clearance fender flares open up the front and rear wheel wells substantially, making room for a 35” tall tire with NO LIFT!* AEV HighMark Fender Flares allow you to take full advantage of the Colorado ZR2’s extremely capable and incredibly well-engineered OEM suspension system, while also maintaining a lower center of gravity with all the floatation and ground clearance of a larger tire.
Two front fender flare kits are available for either the standard Colorado ZR2 front bumper or the ZR2 Bison’s front bumper, each with their own specific closeout panel for a clean integration with the OE inner wheel well liners. LED marker lights are tastefully integrated into both front and rear flares and an optional AEV Splash Guard Set is available for customers living in states that require them.”
That’s Astrick after “No Lift” does have some conditions applied- specifically that AEV wheels and/or spacers are required and the HighMark Fenders are best used with CrewCab/Short bed trucks only. AEV also recommends a 1-inch front level to make the truck look its best and provide maximum clearance.
AEV Colorado ZR2 HighMark Fender Flares Key Features
- Allows for the fitment of 35” tall tires w/ NO LIFT*
- Front and rear integrated LED marker lights
- Extremely durable and UV-stable ABS construction
- Standard ZR2 and ZR2 Bison specific kits
- Includes custom closeout panels to integrate with the OE wheel liners

The biggest catch is the kit is listed at an “Advanced” difficulty level, requiring 16 hours of install time. That’s because you’ll be cutting/trimming metal, wiring side marker lighting, and installing closeout panels. But for those looking to take their Colorado ZR2 to the next level, it’s a fantastic modification worthy of the time and effort.
You can learn more about the AEV HighMark Fender Flare Kit at the AEV Website. Front and rear kits, depending on the model year and whether your Colorado ZR2 is a Bison model or not, start at $742 for a pair and run up to $825.
Kits for the new style 2023/2024 Colorado are not yet available, but we’ll update you when they are.
