The next-generation 2027 Chevy Silverado prototype was spotted testing, revealing new design elements, production-ready lighting, and potential suspension changes.

Production Lighting Now Visible

One of the biggest changes on this latest Silverado prototype is the presence of what appears to be production-ready lighting. The front fascia still remains under heavy camouflage, but key details are visible, including eyebrow LED accents that seem to serve as both daytime running lights and turn indicators. The placeholder projector-style headlight seen on earlier prototypes is now gone, replaced with a more refined housing that integrates multiple lighting elements.

The new headlight setup appears inspired by the Silverado HD, with a vertically stacked cluster and a distinct LED signature. Additional details include fog lights and a radar sensor housed within the front bumper intake assembly, which will likely assist with driver-assist technologies.

Rear Suspension Updates & New Exhaust Setup

A closer look at the rear suspension setup on this prototype reveals some notable changes. The shock absorber placement appears refined compared to the current model, with a wider-set layout that could improve clearance and stability. Some have speculated that GM may be shifting the rear shocks to an outboard mounting position—moving them outside of the leaf springs and frame—potentially improving suspension travel and ride stability.

Additionally, this latest prototype sports a quad-tip exhaust setup, replacing the dual-tip “HDMI” style exhaust found on the current Silverado. This design is similar to what is seen on GM’s full-size SUVs and suggests a sportier aesthetic for certain trim levels. While this setup is featured on this test truck, off-road models will likely offer a higher-clearance exhaust configuration.

First Look at the Interior Screens

For the first time, we’re able to see part of the next-generation Silverado’s interior, and it appears to feature a large digital display setup. The driver’s gauge cluster and center infotainment screen seem to be connected in a flowing, widescreen layout. From this angle, the design is reminiscent of the curved 33-inch display found in some Cadillac models, though it’s unclear if the Silverado will use a similar system or if it will feature separate screens housed in a seamless panel.

20-inch Wheels, Off-Road Tires & Skid Plates

This prototype is riding on Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT tires, which provide a balance of on-road refinement and off-road capability. Though the exact tire size isn’t fully visible, we can confirm that they are mounted on 20-inch wheels.

Additionally, we can see skid plates mounted underneath the truck, suggesting that this particular test vehicle is equipped with off-road protection. Whether this is a Z71 package, a Trail Boss variant, or an entirely new off-road-focused trim remains to be seen.

2027 Silverado Will Ride on Updated T1-2 Platform

As previously reported, the next-generation Silverado and its GMC Sierra counterpart will utilize the updated GM T1-2 platform. This revised architecture allows GM to introduce major changes to the truck’s structure while avoiding the need for an entirely new platform, helping streamline development costs while improving capability and efficiency.

2027 Chevy Silverado Timeline & Powertrain Details

This Silverado prototype remains on track for a 2027 model-year release, with production expected to begin sometime in 2026. This could give GM a strategic advantage, as Ford’s next-generation F-150 is reportedly delayed until 2028.

The new Silverado is also expected to feature GM’s sixth-generation small-block V8 engines. These engines are projected to deliver a noticeable bump in fuel efficiency and reduced emissions while maintaining the power and performance truck buyers expect. GM has stated that these next-gen V8s will provide an efficiency improvement of 10-12% over the 2019 model while also improving performance.
