The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD is almost ready for prime time, judging by the looks of this barely covered prototype driving on public roads. With less camouflage than ever, we now get our best look yet at the heavily refreshed heavy duty Chevy.
2024 Chevy Silverado HD – Our Spy Photographer Reports
We just got our best look yet at a production-spec prototype for the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD, including a revealing view of its massively upgraded interior.
It’s A Chevy Under The Camo
Let’s start with the basics, and nail down that this is a Silverado under that camo, and not a GMC Sierra prototype. This test truck shows some key design traits that point to this as the bowtie brand’s HD offering. We can see some of the surface development protruding into the vinyl camouflage on the front fender, and its consistent with the Silverado HD’s unique front fender styling. Going further, the rounded corners of the wheel arch, and the placement of the front fender badge (hidden under padding and vinyl on this prototype) are scream Silverado HD and not Sierra. The tail-lights are also Chevy, as you can see signs of the Silverado’s notched design, despite the camo’s best efforts to conceal.
New Headlight Cluster
Although still concealed with disguising mesh and some tape, we get our best look yet at the new headlight cluster destined for the revamped Silverado. The polarizing two-tiered headlight design—with its vertically stacked lamps—is gone, with what appears to be a new single headlight unit placed higher on the front-fascia.
We see an eyebrow LED signature similar to the 2023 Chevy Colorado, with the primary headlights just below, about in line with the grille’s main cross bar. The lights still have a somewhat stacked design, but everything looks more conventional—and conventionally attractive—than the current Silverado HD. Vertically-oriented fog lamps can be seen on the redesigned front bumper.
New Interior Caught Uncovered
The Silverado HD will get an all-new interior design, which appears to share a lot with the 2022 Silverado 1500’s massively upgraded passenger compartment. The attractive new dashboard design—with its larger 13.4-inch infotainment screen—is in place, as are handsome open-pore wood accents. It looks like the exterior’s taped-over badge is hiding the High Country insignia, so this appears to be the top-tier interior treatment. But interior caught here is not pure Silverado 1500, thanks to the HD’s retention of the column shifter.
The column shifter frees up center console space too, so we see some changes there. The Silverado HD gets two side-by-side cup holders (the 1500’s cup holders run front-to-back), leaving more open storage space. The center arm rest also shows changes, suggesting a different storage bin. All in all, the Silverado HD will see very meaningful improvements to its interior space.
2024 Silverado HD Release Date
Just when GM’s refreshed HD trucks will reach the market is uncertain—things allegedly got pushed back to the 2024 model year thanks to supply chain issues. Given the state of this well-finished prototype, and signs of advanced development within GM’s testing protocols, it seems likely that they could launch in the first quarter of 2023. Ford’s redesigned Super Duty is due this Fall, so GM will be just behind the curve in matching the Blue Oval’s HD truck overhaul.
