Our spy photographer reports:
We caught a new prototype for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, giving us our first glimpse at some new front-fascia lighting details destined for the refreshed pickup.
All of our prior 2022 Silverado spy shots have depicted prototypes with early placeholder lighting, but this latest test truck is wearing what appears to be production-spec lights behind the camouflage mesh. The visible evidence strongly suggests that changes are in store for the Silverado’s rather controversial lighting set-up, with definite changes to the function of the updated truck’s LED signature.
The current Silverado (except for the WT and Custom trims) has a three-part headlight design, with the headlight at the top, the unique LED signature in the middle, and the turn indicator stationed at the bottom in a thin lighting strip. This latest prototype clearly appears to have a reworked LED signature that seems to do double-duty as the turn indicator. The new LED signature can be seen lit in both white and amber in various shots, further cementing the reworked function and design of the new lighting strategy.
When the current Silverado 1500 made its debut, the rather busy front-fascia design generated some initial criticism. The new, potentially simplified design could address some of the more polarizing elements of the Silverado 1500’s face. We’ll have to wait until more of the camouflage falls off to make a further assessment, but this latest evidence definitely suggests that some front-end changes are in the works, to go with its updated interior.
