The GMC Hummer EV is one of the most anticipated vehicles in recent years. Following its announcement in 2020, GMC has shown off videos, dozens of images, and has provided some media with advanced previews of the hulking EV. Recently, parent company General Motors took to Instagram to give us yet another tease for the new vehicle, this time in the form of an early sketch.
The image comes to us courtesy of General Motors Design Instagram page. The sharp, ultra-futuristic design differs from that of the actual EV in several ways. First, the Hummer text is slimmer and further spread out across the tailgate. It’s also illuminated, which (at least for now) isn’t the case with the real thing.

The sketch’s taillights are matrix dots of light and the rear bumper has been replace with a cropped section with two tow hooks. The actual 2022 Hummer EV will feature upright LED lights, and a real bumper. Other differences include sharper tailgate and side shapes, hidden door handles, and almost no fender overhang on either the front or rear wheel.
None of this is surprising, of course. Renders, sketches, and concept vehicles often differ significantly from the actual vehicles they turn into, and the Hummer is no exception. At this point in its development, we’ve seen nearly every angle and interior shot for the new Hummer EV. All we’re waiting on is a change to hop behind the wheel and try out WTF mode for ourselves. The Hummer EV Edition 1 sold out almost immediately and will hit the streets sometime in late 2021. Other models, including the $99,995 EV3X will come later in 2022 and beyond.
