A prototype we believe is an example of the new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado has been captured on film.
Our spy photographer reports the following:
We got the first look at Chevrolet’s fully revamped 2023 Colorado pickup, caught testing in Michigan in its Crew Cab configuration.
Instead of an all-new 32xx architecture, GM is reportedly opting to thoroughly update the existing 31xx architecture for the 2023 Colorado, and its GMC Canyon counterpart. While that signals more of an evolutionary change rather than a reinvention, this first prototype looks like big changes are still in store for GM’s midsize pickups.
More Aggressive Design
While vinyl camouflage covers all the body surfaces, it is possible to see that the new Colorado will get a more angular design with more chiseled surface development. The somewhat doughy forms of the current Colorado will give way to more sharply-defined quarter panels, prominently flared haunches. The softly squared wheel arches of the current Colorado are still part of the new truck’s design.
Up front we see slimmer headlamps, and signs of a more angular front-fascia. Out back, the prototype’s rear bumper looks like it will retain the small step aids found on the current truck.
Larger Footprint?
Judging from these first spy shots, the Colorado looks like it may grow a bit, with what appears to be a more generously-sized Crew Cab.
Based on the timing of this Colorado prototype’s first appearance, it would seem that GM is about six months behind Ford’s new 2023 Ranger. As of now, current reports peg the new Colorado and Canyon to debut sometime around the third quarter of next year. Whether the micro chip shortage will slow development of the Colorado remains to be seen.
