The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is almost here, and the electric pickup’s launch is already going sideways… on purpose.

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is set to go on sale this summer, spotlighting an Ultium Platform with an upgraded 440-mile range per charge. This luxury model merges advanced electric capabilities with the premium design GMC is known for, making the Sierra Denali EV a compelling addition to the electric vehicle market and an alternative to Chevrolet’s Silverado EV.

Driven by GM’s Ultium Platform, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 offers a notable improvement in both range and performance capabilities over GMC’s initial estimates. The truck boasts an enhanced towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,450 pounds- on par with its gasoline-powered siblings.  Equipped with three powerful electric motors, the Sierra EV generates a GM-estimated 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in “Max Power mode.” Its 800-volt DC Public Fast Charging capability is a practical feature, enabling about 100 miles of range to be added in approximately 10 minutes.

“Denali has been an industry icon for 25 years and the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 provides customers an exclusive opportunity to be a part of the next chapter,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president, Buick and GMC. “As a limited-run exclusive trim for launch, the Edition 1 is truly the Denali of EVs and represents the pinnacle of GMC.”

Among the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1’s features is the GMC-exclusive CrabWalk, which aligns the rear wheels with the front at low speeds to enable diagonal movement, easing navigation in tight spaces. It’s one of the features we love in our HUMMER EV Edition 1 and we’re glad to see it come to the Sierra EV. Watching the video above spotlights just how cool driving sideways can be.

The Sierra EV Denali also includes Super Cruise, a hands-free driving technology designed for highway use that supports trailering on compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada. Again, one of our favorite features from the GMC HUMMER EV and a welcome addition to the Sierra EV.

The truck is equipped with an Air Ride Adaptive Suspension that can adjust the vehicle’s ride height by about 2 inches. That’s a lot less than the HUMMER EV’s air suspension, which can raise and lower over 12-inches- but the Sierra EV Denali is also meant to be an on-road machine, not an off-road rock crawler like the HUMMER EV.

The all-new MultiPro Midgate expands the usable bed space up to 10-feet, 10-inches on the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, which can help accommodate longer items like a canoe.

Another interesting addition to this model we can’t ignore is GMC’s “first” MultiPro MidGate, expanding the truck’s cargo area to nearly 11 feet with the gate down, enhancing its utility. This isn’t an option on our HUMMER EV and we have to admit, we’re a little jealous.

The Silverado EV RST First Edition was announced at a lower pricing than first expected- the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is no different. Priced at $99,495, which includes a $1,995 destination freight charge (DFC), the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 combines robust performance with the luxury and utility expected from a top-tier GMC model. With deliveries expected to start this summer, GMC dealers are finalizing orders with those who have reserved this innovative electric truck.

We’re awaiting the call from our dealer, as GM-Trucks.com has a GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 reservation. Will we turn it into an order? That has yet to be decided. However, we did just convert our Silverado EV RST First Edition reservation into an order a few weeks ago.
