Blend Door Actuator! 01 Silverado

Recommended Posts

Has anyone attempted to replace one of these in this model truck? Or does anyone know how much to have it done at the dealer? I need one replaced thats been done once already but has since crapped out again. Is this something i can tackle myself or just save up the $ money and go to the dealer? The one thats bad controls the defrost- vent- and floor. And it got replaced when i first bought the truck and i saw that they completely ripped the dash apart and im not so sure they knew what they were doing. Any advice would be appreciated as im on a very tight budget now!! Thanx

I think the "blend door" is for hot cold?

I would advise following the proper instructions for doing this. There are certain procedures for doing these types of things. If no one has a link to instructions online anywhere for this or can tell you, might try searching google.com.

Otherwise this information would be in a GM factory service manual set for your vehicle (as well as testing procedures to verify this is in fact the problem). But these are around $150. Might snoop around ebay/internet and see if you can find used books for less. Owning a set of these books will save money in the long run (if you know how to fix things yourself).

It's the one on the bottom and is easy to get to once you remove the lower cover. Two screws and a connector.

You can find one for the auto climate control on rockauto.com for about $135 shipped. They're in Houston so I got mine in about a day. Install is pretty straightforward, key is to connect the old actuator in w/ the HVAC on before you mount it so it can calibrate with the system for the start positions. Otherwise it wont line up right and will strip the gears (found this out the hard way).

Pretty easy install once you get the positioning right.

I'm having the same problem with my 05 silverado. All I get is cold air and it comes out of my dash vents not the defrost or the floor no matter where the knob is. I took it the the dealer because I didn't want to tackle it myself but they tried to rip me off big time. They charged me 150 bucks for diagnostics a'' in which they did nothing" and then they wanted an additional 527 dollars for further diagnostics! They said they had to take my seats out, the center console, and the carpeting! I know this is BS so I went and got my truck. So now I'm in the same boat u are. If u find these instructions could you please send them to me or just post them? Thanks

are yall referring to the air temperature door?

I am referring to the one that controls which vent the air blows out of. Maybe its called the mode door actuator? I get heat and a/c so prob not the temp door.

ok, I should have the mode selector information but the air temp door is a little harder to come by. I will have to see what I have and then post it if it is relevent.
