Cell phone mount for the card slot holder above the headlight switch

Recommended Posts

I finally found a use for the card holder slot that some models have above the headlight switch. With a bit of modification, the iOttie Easy One Touch Mini CD Slot Car Mount Phone Holder from Amazon fits.

It's a fairly stable cell phone holder that uses a flexible metal plate to secure in the slot. It was designed for the CD slot under the radio but the narrow design works well in my truck in the card holder slot to the left of the steering wheel. I did have to disassemble the base of the mount (remove a handful of screws) to get the metal plate out and then cut off about 1/4" from each side of the plate to fit the slot but it was easy. I used a Dremel with a cut-off wheel to make the cuts. I don't recommend a hacksaw - the metal plate was stronger than you'd think and a bit hard to work with due to its size.

Just thought I'd put this out there for anyone looking for an optional use of the slot or a different cell phone mount to use.

Got mine installed, now just need to get a longer iphone cord to reach it easier.

I like to use the usb in the console as I prefer to leave the front plug covers closed.

How did you run the cord for yours, where does it exit?

I'm coming out under the steering wheel but I'd prefer to do something tidier.

Tried to get a pic of the holder in the cd slot but realized the cd slot is not flush with the face of the radio.

Because of this the retainer blades don't go In much at all and won't hold well.

Works great on the card slot though.

I just created one of these for the card holder in my truck it seems to work perfectly once you get it trimmed, I cannot think of a better use for the slot.

For reference the card slot is 2.2 in wide and the CD slot mount is 3 in wide from the factory so you must trim around 0.4 in off of either side of the CB slot holder to make it fit.

FYI I used a flat cord and was able to route it between the lower dash pad and vent surround. Remove the left fuse cover for access if you decide to do this.

Very nice. I have been using a Kenu vent clip on the vent just to the right of the steering wheel. I love this idea. But I don't know if I could get used to having it on the left side But it is a great use of that odd slot.

I may try it and see how it goes. (When my truck is delivered of course.)
