Chevy wants you to know that F-150's aluminum body sucks

Hot off the 4th of July weekend, Chevrolet is going for broke to let the world know they think Ford F-150's all aluminum body..well.. sucks.

Visitors to Chevrolet.com are prompted to watch these three videos, which all seem to make the same point. You've got to be an idiot to buy a truck with an aluminum body. That said, each video goes about it in very unique way.

Mmmm. Im not impressed. Negative advertising usually doesnt work as well as other types... They should know that.

 

I mean wtf is a F150 gonna buckle the frame when u go over a speed bump? NO!

 

If i was Chev, id focus less on trash talk and more on adding some torque under the hood.

 

I got a 2014 5.3L and my brother a 2013 eco. He ends up driving 99% of the time when we have to pull a work or sled trailer. It just goes nicer. Itll go up hills in 6th and 5th gear that mine is in 3rd and revved waaay up just to maintain speed. Cant stand listening to mine hunt for gears on the shallowest of inclines.

 

Now i know some guys will say buy a diesel buy a diesel. I dont pull often, but when i do it would be nice to keep up to my bro. Put a turbo on the 5.3 then we'll be in business!

This article is quite simply comical. Perhaps GM should start focusing more on building a quality vehicle rather than "atttemping" to trash talk Ford. GM needs to spend some more time on these forums to find out exactly what the owners think about their vehicles.

Honestly I could live with higher repair costs.

 

Last time I had to do body work after an accident was about 20 years ago. And it was paid for by the insurance company from the guy who caused the accident.

Last time I had to add oil to my 5.3 L engine with 40,000 km on the clock was 4 weeks ago.

Truth in Advertising laws prohibit ads containing false information, so what they say HAS to be true.

 

Still, it's better to promote your own product than show deficiencies in others.

That's the biggest crock of BS. They may not lie outright but they can beat around the bush. How else do all three real truck brands claim most reliable/longest lasting? They cherry pick data.

Frankly I think "high strength steel" is as much BS as "military grade aluminum". Both meaningless.

 

I think the steel vs aluminum debate is useless anyways, since there are a lot of non-metal materials coming along that will make a better body panel than either of them. No rust, lightweight, and very strong.

The ads are misguided. Thinking good intentions highlighting differences went bad. But the black Silverado at the end looks bad ass.

Mike is right though. Most ads no matter what the product are in some way finding a loop hole in info so they're in some way telling the truth while at the same time not telling the whole truth. Same as why Ford is able to constantly advertise that they have the best selling full size for the past 30+ years. Technically they are if you keep Chevy and GMC #s separate. So in a way they're telling the truth, but they're really not.

 

I'm diehard GM, but in all of those that have to do with strength they don't mention that the Aluminum that Ford uses on the body is aircraft grade aluminum, not just regular aluminum. Is it worth the repair cost which will probably raise insurance cost and is it worth only shaving 700 lbs? I don't think it is personally, but it's still high strength aluminum. It also doesn't matter when it comes to getting into a wreck since body panels don't save you, it's the frame and chassis under the body panels and mainly the cab area that protect you. Now a days the front clip is designed to absorb the impact so less gets to you. So it's not a bad thing if you see a newer vehicle with the whole front end or rear end crushed and torn apart as long as the cab or chassis around the people protect you. Oh and just in case you didn't know "patriot", but the hoods on these K2 trucks are aluminum.
