Belt Tensioner Assembly for 2000 Chevy 7.4 K3500

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need help. I have a 2000 Chevy K3500 7.4 454 with air pump K19. My belt tensioner is bad and it is a discontinued GM item; (AC Delco 10237275 Belt Tensioner Assembly). No one that I can find makes aftermarket and it fits 1996-2000.

Does anyone have a work around.

Thanks for any help.

Nelson

Thanks for the post.

The pulley is not the problem and yes you can buy them.

It is the Tensioner Assembly (idler spring mechanism) that is bad. It has lost it's strength and the belt is slipping bad.

Hayden does not have one that fits.

Thanks again

I made a call to GM and they finally got back to me. They told me they try to keep parts for ten years and they have NO replacement for this part. Isn't that just nice...............

You're tellin me that the shitty aftermarket doesn't have a tensioner assy to sell you ????

This is pure B.S. from GM Chevy.................

I can pass that along: Nelson found that the tensioner pulley for a 1996 Impala SS with a 350 is the same with one minor difference, the holes on the 454 tensioner are further apart. He just cut the ends off the part, making those holes open, more like a 'C', and used #8 washers and put it on. He said he's been running it that way for a month and it works fine.

Like him, I called half the country salvage yards, searched the internet for days, checked every parts store, and nobody has the part. I had a salvage yard in CA tell me on the very rare occasion when he gets one he sells it for $250 as you just can't find them. So this modifying job might be the only solution.

I also needed a 10237275 belt tensioner. They are not available! After buying and returning several tensioners, I found one that was close. After some engineering I made a bracket that fits the tensioner to my Suburban. I am selling a new tensioner, a bracket, a spacer, bolts and washers for $100 (freight extra). It will be shipped from California. After removing your old tensioner you save one of the 10mm bolts. Screw the saved bolt through the new tensioner into the boss on the engine. Screw a new cap head 10mm bolt and lock washer through the included bracket into the boss on the engine. Tighten the included 3/8 cap head bolt and lock washer. I was able to reuse my serpentine belt. You will need a 13mm deep socket, a standard 13mm socket, an 8 mm allen socket and a 5/16 allen socket. Go to ebay, type: GM 10237275 Replacement. Wayne
