This will be a multi-part posting with the issue logs to follow. It's so large we can't post it all at once.

Our truck has been to the dealer for the following problems with no fix in sight:

1. Gas mileage dropping down to between 10 to 14mpg on the freeway. We were originally in the low to mid 20’s before the first remote start safety recall was preformed.

2. Radio not working, constant system errors, and screen going black at random.

3. Mylink system not working correctly, won’t take a voice command & shows error message, backup camera coming on and going black while in drive shows error message, Lane departure not working/detecting drivers side lines, & constant other random computer system errors.

4. Driver’s seat feels loose at mounting brackets while driving.

5. Heated/cooled seats not cooling. Service supervisor confirmed it – yet not repaired.

6. Transmission not shifting correctly misses gears; slips & “clunks” from powertrain; won’t disengage from engine properly when braking.

7. Engine misses/stalls when making sharp turns at random: fails to accelerate when merging into oncoming freeway traffic or turning out of parking lots.

We have had this truck into the dealer for repair three times and this last time they kept it over a week. The odd thing is they drove it 46 miles while they had it and used over half a tank of gas yet still said that gas mileage is fine. The only thing that has been correctly repaired was a panel under the steering column which was constantly rattling.

We have been able to replicate some of the MyLink/computer/radio errors with the mechanic in the truck but we get told it’s working as intended. The main response from the dealer is “No codes” so it didn’t happen, can’t fix it.

What’s it going to take to get this truck repaired? Do we seriously need to put our lives in danger every time we merge out into traffic? Is the engine transmission going to lock up and push us into the car in front of us when we try to stop or are we going to pull out into traffic only to stall out and get hit by a semi? The engine/transmissions/computer issues with this truck pose a serious safety risk so we started to log all the problems each day as they happen. We hope this might help someone else that is having the same problems.

The sad thing about all of this is that we thought GM nailed this K series truck. It had the looks, the quietest cabin, smoothest ride, best looking leather interior/dash layout, great gas mileage, remote starts, and a new MyLink computer system that integrated with all our mobile devices but at this point we would have felt much safer if we just kept our 2002 Z71 Avalanche. This was our 4th new GM vehicle over the years and it could very well be the last GM purchase we ever make.

Problems after last dealer repair attempt:

6-15-14 (just after starting truck and pulling out of a parking lot) the radio went blank, display went completely black, music went off and then the Chevy My Link voice said "on-star activated" very loudly over all the speakers..... Said something garbled we could not make out and then said "on-star call ended" (No buttons were pressed before or after it did this!) it paused for a minute on the black screen then radio/screen came back up like normal.

6-15-14 Dashboard area makes loud pop and crack sounds while driving sounds like rocks hitting windshield but the sound is coming from inside dashboard.

6-15-14 Filled gas tank and reset trip meter to start a MPG log.

6-15-14 Bose Stereo/Radio System will no longer move the sound to the rear speakers and the equalizer will not remove the excessive Bass tones from front. Rear speaker sound/volume is nearly nonexistent.

6-16-14 While driving the radio display screen/backlight and all dash gauge lights dimmed completely off for no reason. The truck was in bright sunlight with no trees, no overpasses or buildings casting shadows on the truck. Moved dimmer switch on dash fully up and down a few times and all the lights came back on.

6-18-14 Started the truck and waited for the system to fully boot up, tried to use a voice command, then an error pops up on the drivers display that says: “Selected language does not Support Speech Recognition” with only a “dismiss” button displayed on screen. After that error the MyLink system wouldn’t take ANY voice commands for about 5 minutes.

6-18-14 GPS/Map went blank/grey in the middle of town and only showed the truck icon in the middle of a grey screen. Pulled over and turned off the truck, restarted it and the map screen reset back to normal with all streets showing.

6-18-14 Dashboard area still makes the loud pop and crack sounds while driving.

6-19-14 Two different times while making turns and merging into traffic, transmission hesitated stumbled and hunted for a gear. "Felt like an engine miss - but with no dash lights or warning alerts." – This problem with fast moving oncoming traffic is not a safe problem to have!

6-19-14 lost all HD, FM, and AM channels on the Radio while driving in town on the freeway. Nothing but XM channels would play.

6-19-14 Incoming phone call did not clear on the drivers display screen after hanging the call up, it was stuck on the phone information screen.

6-19-14 The dashboard area is still making a loud pop and crack sound while driving like something is breaking inside the dash.

6-20-14 Merging on the freeway from a metered stop, truck missed a shift into 4th or 5th gear. The engine revved up like it was in neutral and I had to let off gas to get it to shift into next gear. This recurring Transmission/Computer problem is dangerous with oncoming and merging traffic!!

6-20-14 When letting off throttle to coast to a stop it felt like the transmission/torque converter was stuck in gear and not disengaging. The engine was pushing us all the way to our full stop before it disengaged. "It was like I had my foot on the gas and brakes at the same time, but didn’t!" Had to apply brakes extra hard to come to a full stop. Again dangerous condition to be driving with - Not Safe!!!!

6-20-14 Incoming phone call did not clear from driver's screen on hang up, again.

6-20-14 Drivers side cooled seat was turned on for over 45 minutes and never cooled, just turned it off and gave up on it. Dash A/C was working fine the entire time.

6-20-14 The Bass on radio would not adjust down again using the menu knob to select the custom setting like it says to do in the owner’s manual. You can only select “custom” by using the touch screen – knobs will not work. Back lights on the radio knobs are not working like it shows in the instruction booklet.

6-22-14 Transmission not shifting properly, miss-shifted and hunted for gears several times during the day. Noticed it was usually when merging out into traffic or turning corners without coming to a full stop first.

6-22-14 Felt like the truck was being "pushed" by the engine/transmission when slowing down and coming to a stop again today. It's like the transmission/torque converter was not disengaging properly when trying to brake or slow. NOT SAFE!

I've experienced a few of the things you described. Random restarts and glitches with the MyLink infotainment, the pops from the dash that sound like gravels hitting the windshield, and some occasional transmission wonkiness. Up until recently, is hasn't been enough to bother me too bad, but the radio stopping randomly in he middle of an MP3 on a USB stick, and then restarting with the first song on the USB stick is starting to get annoying when it happens.

6-22-14 The lane departure warning is not working correctly on the drivers left side. No notifications until well after you have crossed the line on the left. Right side lane recognition is working properly.

6-22-14 The driver’s seat is popping, clicking and has lots of movement like it is not bolted down properly and is very loose. Happens when turning corners or stopping and starting.

6-22-14 Both cooled seats would not get cold today even after being turned on for over 30 minutes on the high setting. Turned off and just gave up.

6-22-14 Filled gas tank 19gal with 272.5 miles on the trip meter = 14.3 mpg. Trip meter on truck reads 14.2 mpg so it is displaying correctly.(Last repair attempt the mechanic suggested it was not calculating correctly and not to worry about the low gas mileage.) Mostly freeway miles and it should have been in the low to mid 20's not the teens!

6-22-14 Dashboard area still makes loud pop and crack sounds while driving. It sounds like rocks hitting windshield. Positive the sound is coming from inside the dashboard.

6-23-14 The transmission shifted hard into gears several times during the day in stop and go traffic with loud “clunks” coming from drive train.

6-23-14 It shifted very HARD into 6th gear while we were on the freeway. The shift was so hard that it felt like someone had hit the truck from behind while we were doing between 50-60mph on the freeway. There was also a loud bang/clunk in the drive train at the same time.

6-23-14 The cooled seats would not work and we tried them several times throughout the day. They would turn on and blow hot exhaust air out the back but they would not get cool. In dash A/C worked fine.

6-23-14 The radio quit working, again. HD, FM and AM would not play on any station. It would play one second of music on each new channel when changed and then it would just go silent. Turned truck off and back on and it still would not work. Gave up.

6-24-14 Hunted for gears and shifted hard in stop and go freeway traffic.

6-24-14 The rear-end/driveline/ or U-joints making a "clunk" noise when starting and stopping. Can't tell exactly where the clunk is coming from front or back.

6-24-14 The driver’s seat rocked back and forth during braking and acceleration in stop and go freeway traffic felt like the seat mounting bolts are loose.

6-24-14 The radio randomly quit working again, No AM, FM or HD channels only the XM would work. No trees, obstructions, bridges, power lines or tall buildings around that could interfere with the reception!

6-26-14 System would not take any voice commands, an error popped up on the driver’s display that reads: “Selected language does not Support Speech Recognition”. Only option is a “dismiss” button displayed on the screen.

6-26-14 It shifted hard into gear and then felt like the transmission started “slipping” while turning out of a parking lot. Had drivers window down at the time and the transmission was making a low "growling" sound like it was very low on fluid. "The sound was similar to an old power steering pump going bad and was very loud!" The "growling" went away when the transmission started shifting normally again after about half of a block.

6-27-14 The tailgate didn’t deploy slowly when opened from the fully closed/shut position and fell unimpeded almost knocking me down. This is the first time this has happened. The outside temp was 95 and truck was sitting in the sun on flat ground when this happened. Closed it all the way, moved out of the way and tried it again and it did the same thing – fell quickly down unimpeded.

6-27-14 The transmission slipped/missed a gear/hesitated while turning (twice) both times while turning out into traffic and accelerating. This hesitation, when it happened, felt like a total loss of all fuel to the engine.

6-27-14 The radio would not rewind and replay a song that just played from start to finish. When attempting to replay/rewind the song the radio screen said signal lost and all the radio stations AM, FM, and HD quit working. From that point only XM worked.

6-27-14 An incoming phone call would not clear on drivers display once the call ended.

6-27-14 The drivers cooled seat would not cool - tried twice, gave up.

6-28-14 Started truck and pulled out in drive to the street, the main radio screen went solid black, and then a message popped up with "service camera system" at top of screen, backup lines then appeared on the black screen. The truck was not in reverse when this happened; it was in drive with the truck moving forward. Stopped, turned off truck, restarted and everything reset back to normal, then put the truck in reverse and the camera worked.

6-28-14 The lane departure not working correctly on the drivers left side again. No notifications until well after you have crossed the lines on the left. Right side still ok.

6-28-14 The dashboard area still makes loud pop and crack sounds while driving.

6-28-14 The truck hesitated and jerked while making turns at multiple times during the day.

6-28-14 I did not have my phone in the vehicle with me today yet the radio display screen popped up a message while I was driving that said my phone just connected to the radio????

6-28-14 The radio bass and equalizer controls along with the dash knob back lights are still not working like the owners instruction book said they should.

6-28-14 The radio quit working again. No AM, FM, or HD channels working. It will only play one second of music when switching between stations then it goes silent. Checked XM and it was the only thing that would work.

6-29-14 large cloud of grey smoke from exhaust after starting. It was the first start after sitting all night.

6-29-14 After pulling out of our driveway the engine hesitated then accelerated on and off jerking the truck several times. It would not accelerate correctly for about one block of travel - like the engine was starving for fuel "but it was not low on fuel." The fuel gauge read that we had a ¼ of a tank at the time. After one block and a sharp turn it drove normally again.

6-29-14 After placing an outgoing call and ending it from the steering wheel controls the main radio display screen was stuck on the phone display and would not switch back to the radio or NAV screens. The small drivers display worked properly during this issue.

6-29-14 Filled gas tank with 22.5 gallons. 330 miles traveled "mostly freeway" Trip meter reads 15.3MPG actual is 14.6MPG. Still nowhere near the low to mid 20's we were getting on the freeway before the problems started happening.

6-29-14 After washing and drying the truck noticed that the front bumper is crooked/skewed to the passenger side of the truck “the gap under the top painted skirt is much larger on the passenger’s side between the chrome and the top skirt”. After a very close inspection it has a manufacturing defect/dent/bend on the passenger side under the painted top skirt where the gap is larger - Not impact damage, it's a factory defective part.

6-29-14 Turning out into traffic from a parking lot the transmission completely missed 2nd gear; revved up and slipped several times trying to shift into 3rd. Oncoming traffic had to go around us as the truck slowed - not a safe condition!

6-29-14 The rear speakers are not working properly - almost no sound output from them. You can’t adjust the bass out of the front dash even with the fader turned all the way to the rear. The radio/amp/equalizer is not working properly. It is NOT working like when we first drove the vehicle off the lot!

6-29-14 The radio knobs backlighting still not working.

6-29-14 The cooled driver “seat bottom” actually cooled today BUT the back would not cool at all. Gave up and just turned it off.

6-30-14 First start of the day, lots of light grey smoke came out of exhaust upon start up and went away after letting the engine idle for about one minute.

6-30-14 System would not take voice commands after full system boot up. Same error on drivers display as before “Selected language does not Support Speech Recognition”.

That's all what we have so far...... Hope this helps someone with similar recurring problems!

Wow.....hate to be anyone involved with this customer....need a good technician with none to be found. Bet its having can-bus issues or something....only logical thing I could think of if its not leaving any codes whatsoever but one of the controllers gotta have sumthin in it.

Get some gm reps involved. Ur dealer is supposed to take care of this....

I've experienced a few of the things you described. I too have heard this pop from the dash. First time I heard it I thought it was perhaps a stone hitting the windshield, next time I heard it, I thought maybe it had been a stink bug hitting the windshield. In both cases, nothing appeared to actually have hit the windshield, it just sort of sounded like it did. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

And the log is still going.......

Take a look at the last entry for today 7-2-14. Its the first time we noticed that happening at the same time as a weird glitch.

In a previous post one of the members here pointed out that it may be a grounding problem. The dealers mechanic checked for that on the last repair attempt and said it all checked out ok.

7-1-14 Both driver and passenger cooled seats would not get cool even after being on for over 30 minutes. Passenger’s seat back (not bottom) started getting warmer!

7-1-14 Placed an outgoing phone call and the drivers display along with the main display screen changed to show the radio info (not phone/Bluetooth) even though the Bluetooth was active. The sound from the phone call was coming out all the radio speakers but we could not end the call with the truck controls on the steering wheel and had to end the call using the phone.

7-1-14 More loud snaps and pops coming from the dash area while driving.

7-1-14 Engine hesitation or transmission slippage again but this time it was a lot of small short jerking/slippage. (Felt like on/off light ABS braking, but while accelerating.)It only happened once from 0 to 30mph before going back to normal.

7-2-14 System would not take voice commands, error popped up on the driver’s display “Selected language does not Support Speech Recognition”. The voice system would not work for about 5 minutes after the error.

7-2-14 The in dash A/C was “ON” but NOT set to the “auto” setting, the fan was set to low but suddenly it started blowing air at the max fan speed all by itself. I quickly checked the controls and the “auto” light was not lit up so I checked the dash gauges for any warning lights but none were present. I did notice the voltage gauge had spiked out of the normal range to about 17+ volts at that same time. About 5 minutes later the volts dropped down to just barely 12v almost if not undercharging and stayed there.
